Lasagna - *Stupid question alert *
Do I need to cook the noodle first???
I'm going to make veggie lasagna tomorrow and I've never made lasagna of any sort in my life.

If you have no cook noodles, then no.
Otherwise, I'm pretty sure you DO have to boil them, but maybe someone has a trick up their sleeves.

They have "no cook" noodles. Ive never tried them, but if you use those, No, you dont have to cook them.
If you use regular noodles, yes, you have to cook them. Supposedley al dente is ok (a minute or so less than you would cook regular noodles - since they will soak up some of the sauce when you bake it)

This. Including the al dente part.

I use the regular lasagna noodles but instead of boiling them, I soak them on a baking dish in hot tap water for about 10 mins or until they are soft and pliable (al dente). its so much easier and my noodles dont break apart by boiling them

I actually never bother to cook my lasagna noodles, and I don't bother with the no-boil ones either.
The liquid from the sauce and the vegetables will be enough to soften the noodles as it bakes. It's a tip I read in the Moosewood Cookbook.

My mom taught me if using the tradtional noodles that need to be cooked first, cook them even less than al dente because they cook more in the oven with the sauce and everything.
I actually only buy the no cook noodles because Im lazy. haha. They taste fine I think, but the regular ones do taste better.

Re: Lasagna - *Stupid question alert *
I cook them for a few minutes (maybe half the actual cooking time) to get them more pliable and to render out some of the starch. cooking them longer I find the lasagna to be a bit soggy. but not cooking them, it's too gummy for my taste.

I don't buy the no cook noodles and I don't cook them at all. I can't stand a soggy noodle and there's enough moisture in the dish to soften the pasta while cooking.
