received an email yesterday but forgot to post it:
We’re unlocking more than 1 billion records, all free through April 10. Find your story FREE in this collection of U.S. records from the 1940s and years beyond. You could discover family in the 1930 census, locate addresses in city directories, and uncover yearbook photos, military draft cards, birth, marriage and death details and more.

Also to look at the 1940s census (which is not yet searchable by name), you can go to http://1940census.archives.gov/search/#searchby=location&searchmode=browse&year=1940

it won't be searchable for some time. There is a volunteer project underway to enter the names into a database. It's not for ancestry.com but for the goverment. They're hoping to create a free, searchable database. To join: https://the1940census.com/society/
The way I found several family members is I looked them up in the 1930s census & then used the enumeration conversions on ancestry.com to get the 1940s ED number. Then scanned through a lot of pages until I found their street number. Obviously it only works if you had a family that stayed put in the area.
