Last night was our worst night yet as parents....

dd went down great as usual but it was a surprise since at the time we had a 2 yr old and 5 yr old literally screaming and running around the house (they were visitors w/ their parents but thats a whole other story....) and we were so proud.....

fast forward to 11:30, I get ready for bed thinking I can go to sleep earlier and catch some zzz.....well, at exactly 11:42 I wake up to the monitor and hear her crying, so I go in and give a pacifier which usually works....this continues for the next three hrs at ten minute intervals....she is rolling all over the crib and trying so hard to sleep but can't....I change her and even feed her...which we haven't done since she was three months old...and still she can't get comfy....finally after 4, she falls asleep for 40 minutes....only to wake up screaming at 5......dh picks her up and tries to comfort her and she calms down a little but then is screaming in his arms...our poor girl...finally she farts but still is uncomfy...so I cave Chat Icon and take her in bed with me until 8...luckily I am not working this week....

but its so weird b/c we have never had a night like this - even since we brought her home.....i felt so bad for her....Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

even today, she isn't quite herself....not as happy as sher usually is and screamed while I just showered, when I got out and planned to take her out to get air, of course she feel asleep and is in her swing, so I left her there and hope this afternoon is better...

sorry to vent...but any advice???

I take my children to bed w/me when they are having a rough night. I need my sleep and so do they. You did NOTHING wrong!

Has she started teething??? You described my DD last night to a T.

ETA: I finally took my daughter to bed with me at 5 am. I couldn't sit up anymore- I don't see anything wrong with it when they don't feel good.Chat Icon

I say it's teething...

We had something similar like that one night about a month ago when DS's top teeth were cutting through. Kept waking up crying.

well, I don't *think* its an ear infection - we just went to the dr on tues and they were fine....unless it can happen that quick...what else should I look for?

Re: Last night was our worst night yet as parents....

First of all Chat Icon Chat Icon I know what a rough night feels like so I feel your pain.

I agree with the other posters about teething and ear infection. I would be wondering if she caught anything from the other two older kids and maybe she will show some symptons later on today. Maybe it was gas..maybe she was just having a bad night. I think you get to the stage where you think you know what they will do at night time then a night like this comes along and you are thrown a curve ball.

Maybe keep an eye on her today and make sure she doesnt have a temp etc.

Maybe her tummy is also bothering her also??? Did she have anything new to eat lately?

Teething lasts a long time - maybe its time to pick up some humphreys - or some kind of teething aid.

Sounds like teething to me. You might want to try some Tylenol if it happens tonight and hopefully she can get some rest!!Chat Icon

I agree... probably is teething. Nicholas is a great sleeper and from time to time he gets this way too and some days later I see a new tooth.

Re: Last night was our worst night yet as parents....

You just described every night that I've lived through for the past 7 nightsChat Icon (I'm very tired!!!)

Hannah now has a double ear infection. The first antibotic prescribed didn't work Chat Icon So now we just started a new one.

2 weeks ago I was at the doctor and she was diagnosed with just a cold. That night was awful so we went back the next day. The dr. said she now had a severe ear infection and blew out her ear drum. She went on amoxicillan and was fine in a few days. Then she got her shots and it's back, only this time a double ear infection. They couldn't put her on amoxicillan again since it was only days before, so they tried some other one and it did nothing! Hence the 7 nights of no sleeping for either of us!!

The doctor actually said an ear infection can come on extremely fast. He said he's had patients there in the morning and back that same night with an ear infection that wasn't there earlier that day.

I'm sure it could also be teething, but honestly if she's still that way again tonight just have it checked for peace of mind.

Hope tonight is betterChat Icon

Chat Icon for you! That has been the last 3 weeks for me!! Chat Icon DH works nights so most of the time I go it alone. Last night DH was home and I just broke down crying. Believe me, I know how you feel and although I feel the same, it's nothing we did wrong as parents. Chat Icon
