Latch system?

How exactly does the Latch carseat system work? Do you need special straps to attach the carseat, or do the carseats come with them? I haven't had my shower yet and my brother said he'd help me install the seat after my shower (he has an 8 mo old baby) but I'm just wondering if I need to register for a special strap or anything like that.

Our 2003 truck doesn't have it and our 2002 Escape does but only on the sides and since we want our little guy in the middle we just use the seat belt.
It is so EASY to hook the infant base up. I take mine in and out alot without problems.

The carseats nowadays have Latch hookups and regular seatbelt hookups.

Re: Latch system?

My 2003 escape has it, but the hooks look like they are on the sides as well. But my brother has the same year escape and I know their seat is in the middle. I need to look more closely I think! Did all the set up equip come with the car seat, or do you have to buy a seperate kit?

to put the seat in the middle you hook it to the latches nearest the middle on the 2 other seats. that's how the state troopers did it when we brought the car seat in for the inspection. we had been using the belt instead. does that make sense?

Re: Latch system?

I have the 2005 Escape...(wow, we all have the same truck!!) and I never even thought of putting the seat in the middle. His seat is behind the passenger seat right now.

Re: Latch system?

I heard that the seat is safest in the middle so thats where I'd like to do it.

How do you get the state troopers to check the seat? I heard that could be done? Or the local fire department?

Re: Latch system?

Our base is in the middle, using the seatbelt. Neither of our cars had the Latch system.

i called the state troopers at republic airport in farmingdale and they told me when to come. every so often they will spend a saturday checking that you have the seat installed right if you stop by. they showed us to to install the infant seat by latch and by belt. it was very informative. we plan to go back now that we have the convertible seat in the 2 cars.

i think that some fire departments and the police dept will do this also.

We have a Honda CRV and we put the base in the middle using the seatbelt. We don't have the latch system either.

The latch system is the greatest - so easy. I find the seatbelts a pain. My 2003 Vibe has the latch and we put his seat in the middle. Any car model year September 2002 and later should have the latch. My GF had been driving around her Jetta for the longest time thiking she didn't have the latch system, and I stuck my hand in the seat and sure enough, there it was.

You do not need to purchase anything separately. THe bases and car sets come with the latch connectors.
