Late Dec-Jan birthdays that just miss the cutoff for 2 year old program

What are you planning on doing? Idk if I should sign him up for the 2 year old class in Jan when he's 2, then be in the class until the following June when he's 3.5, then he'll start the 3 year old class when he's almost 4? The school I plan on sending him to said he would have to take the 2 or 3 yr old class twice bc his birthday just misses the cutoff.

Starting the 2 yr old sept 2012 when he's 32 months old seems late, I dont want him to be behind.

I guess this just has to be it bc I know when he's going to kindergarten he's going to be almost 6 already when some kids wont even be 5 yet.

DD is in a sep program this year. She turned 2 Dec 20th. She'll be in the 2's class next year. She will be one of the older ones in her class, but they group them within a few months of each other , so the older twos are in one class and so on

The 2yo program Kaydyn goes to, they could start in Jan for the 2nd session as long as they turned 2 by Feb 1st. As long as there was space you could start then.

That being said we didn't start Kaydyn in the 2yo program until Sept of last year (she was 2y8mo). She will be in the 3yo program this Sept. I figure she is going to miss the cut off for school anyway so she's going to have 3 years of nursery school.

There was a school by my mother's house in St. James that would have accepted her into the 3yo program at 2y8mo but they would have had to do an interview first to see if they thought she was ready.

DD is a January baby and she will start the 2 y.o. program in Sept when she is almost 3.

My older DD (4) only does 3 mornings now and will go to kindergarden in the fall.

When DD#2 is in the 4 yo program at almost 5, I might put her in a longer day. She won't have to repeat any years doing it this way.

Liam started the 2 year old program mid-year since his birthday is Jan 18th. He will technically be in the 2 year old program for a year and a half. For him, he needed the school enviroment. He was ready so we did start at 2 even though the rest of the class started in Sept.

This is what I think I'm going do. He loves kids and being out and about I think it would be benefial to him. His birthday is Jan 11 so I'll probably start him then. Its really only a few more months of the 2 year old program, so not completely repeated.

Re: Late Dec-Jan birthdays that just miss the cutoff for 2 year old program

Why would you think he would be behind? If anything I think he has an advantage of being one of the oldest in his class. DD had only made the cutoff by 5 days and she struggled in the 3yr old program because everyone was older than her. Her teachers felt she was a born-leader but her immaturity to the other children created a conflict with that and she was having a lot of outbursts and temper tantrums at school. I decided to keep her in the 3yr old program this year even though she is 4 now and she is thriving. She will now always be one of the oldest kids in her class and that's just fine with me.

I know after kindergarten once he starts real school he will be older than a lot of kids and be fine.

For some reason my concern is that if he starts the 2 year old program at 32 months next sept 2012 some kids could be only 22 months (if they're 2 by the end of 2012) so I didnt want his skills to be the same as someone who is almost a year younger than him, thats why I wanted to give him a headstart from january-june, kwim? I know at the end of the year it will all be the same, but I dont know, it was just something that was worrying me Chat Icon I dont want him to be ahead or advanced, but just on schedule and I feel starting him at almost 3 he will be a little behind. I'm not even sure if that makes sense but since they offer mid-year I feel as though I might as well take advantage of it.
