Layering for PJs at night

I was reading a few posts about people who put either light cotton PJs or thermal ones under the fleece. I never thought about this, but I think I'm going to start doing it. My question is do you also put on an undershirt? And whatabout socks if there is no feet on the thermals?

I would really suggest getting a Halo Sleepsack! They stay on and you don't have to worry too much about layering. I put Noah into a onesie, a pair of Old Navy PJ's (with no feets) and a 2.5 tog sleeping bag and he is lovely and toasty warm even on the coldest nights!!!

I put Hayley in a fleece blanket sleeper (and she has a onsie on) on these really cold nights. When it is not so cold, I put her regular cotton pjs on with the feet and put a blanket on her.

I had to start layering Ava and stop putting her in the sleep sack because she stands up now in the crib and was getting caught on the sleep sack. As for the layering, yes, I do put a onesie on her and no socks. I figure the fleece pjs will keep her tootsies warm.

I am paranoid about Katherine getting cold in her sleep since I get pretty cold myself if I'm not under 15 layers! This is how she sleeps in the winter...

Always a onesie.
Footed pjs/no socks
--or--
Top and bottom w/socks
Halo Sleepsack
Light crocheted blanket on top...which she always kicks off anyway.
