Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery...if you know the story or can help me, please come in
I love this story. I think it is magical and beautiful and have been thinking for a while that I wanted it to be the "theme" of Luce's first birthday.
but as I think about it and begin to plan it, I am realizing that this is something I'd like for him to be aware of. to relate to. I'd like him to know the story and participate and make it real for him when he has the ability to know it.
so, if you know the story, would you do it now as a theme, or would you wait until he is older?

I would do it as a theme now, because as he gets older he may not love it the way you do, and may not choose to have that as his theme. Plus, this way, when you are looking at pictures with him you can explain to him that it was his first birthday theme because it meant so much to you, and holds a special meaning in your heart, and you hope it will mean the same thing to him as well.

there will be many other themes later... KWIM?
like we'd save a "soccer" theme for when Loey's older and can really enjoy it and have fun with it.
the one year party can be more about you and what you like for your child.. IMO

look what I found
I was also thinking of having my bff's mom read an excerpt of the book to the kids at the party in French. a few of the kids that will be there take french lessons and I think it will be fun.
was also thinking of having a papier mache craft table so the kids could make their own planets or maybe sheep?? or maybe other stars and such. not sure.

I love iit as a theme for the 1st birthday.
There is a saying "As you speak over them, so you speak into them". It kind of means that the things you say about a child can be prophetic, so giving him the identity of the Little Prince when he is young is just breathing your wish for him to understand that story later - and potentially to identify with that Prince and the journey of his heart.
