lead level 8

Hi everyone...

I moved away from LI when DD was 1 year old. Her lead level at her 1st bday was a 1 (and we lived in a very very old year old apartment building - paint chips and all)

We moved upstate to a 5 year old apartment building and at her 2nd bday her lead was an 8!

How concerned should I be? The ped made no mention of it. I will call to discuss it but wanted to see what you all thought?

I'm gonna have the water checked and I wanted to buy the at home lead kit for her toys but heard that it was very unreliable.

A friend's kids tested 8 & 9 and she just moved out of her house and is staying with a friend. She is having a professional lead check done today ($500)

I'm considering having him check our place too? Is that going overboard? How concerned should I be about an 8?????Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks!!!

I'm not familiar with the scale.

If it runs 1-10, then yes, I'd be concerned about an 8.

I'd also invest in a company coming in. What's $500. when it comes to the health of a DC?

ditto!

Also, does your DH doe construction or is a fireman. I was told that if that is the case, then all clothes should be changed before they walk in the house.

No...he's got an office job. Chat Icon Good question though...I wouldn't have thought of that.

Re: lead level 8

I quickly googled "lead levels in children" and they (CDC) consider an "elevated level" anything greater than 10.

http://0-www.cdc.gov.mill1.sjlibrary.org/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm4950a3.htm

However, that being said, they said, optimally, no level of lead is good.

I don't want to alarm you but I would discuss this further with your ped. and get your house tested asap.

Does DC go to daycare? Some older buildings that house daycare can be a risk as well.

A study done by Cornell whose findings are anything greater than 10 poses a risk

Thanks...I appreciate the info. She spends no more than 3-5 hours per week at the gym daycare while I exercise. And its a very new building...but I'm not so sure about the toys though.
