Lead testing question....
DD had a recalled toy - one of the one's that was in the first recall over the summer. I've never thought about having her blood levels tested, but someone suggested I do it.
What do you think?

Re: Lead testing question....
While it seems unlikely that Hannah would have anything wrong from one toy, it can't hurt to do it just to put your mind at ease. My doctor gave me a prescription to have my son's blood tested for lead before his 12 month appointment. He said it was a good idea because we live in an older house and he wants to make sure there are no lead paint effects. So it sounds like the testing is more common than one would think.

Re: Lead testing question....
I think most doctors like to test for lead around a year. I had DS tested at 9 months since we live in an older house. His levels came back normal and it gave me peace of mind. It's just a blood test.

I called and asked - he suggests it. He said since she's just about 11months old, they will just do her lead test and her 1 year bloodwork all at once. We are going this afternoon.

That sounds pretty typical. I wouldn't worry too much. Honestly. I have had my share of freak-outs over these lead paint and toy recalls, too. And I asked my ped to order extra lead tests for both of my kids - even though neither of their previous lead tests came back with ANY concern.
One thing to keep in mind - severe anemia is one symptom of high lead levels. Even if your doctor was NOT looking for lead specifically, they would investigate further if bloodwork was returned anemic. So maybe that will give you a shread of peace of mind.
