Maybe look at it in a more positive light, like there is better treatment and options for childbirth complications and pre-natal issues. If that # lowers, it would make murder higher...KWIM?
That is a good way to look at it. MAYBE (hopefully) the murder rate for pregnant women hasn't really increased all that much in recent decades.
Every time I hear another one of these stories I feel so sick.
me too, but I really think the media blows it out of proportion, meaning how "common" it is. I really don't think its a on going kinda problem.

it's NOT a small number
Article
The article is from 2005, I didn't read anything recent, did the numbers go up? B/c the article puts pregnant women murdered as #2 injury-related death behind car accidents...both still behind pregnancy related deaths.
They investigated the deaths of women who died while pregnant or within a year of being pregnant between 1991 and 1999 and found 1,993 that were caused by injury, compared with 4,200 that were directly related to pregnancy complications. Of the injury-related deaths, 617 or 31 percent were ruled homicide, making murder the second most common cause of injury-related death for pregnant women after car accidents.

I don't know if this statistic is real or not, but I can see how this can happen. If you have a man who is unstable or just plain selfish and when faced with an unwanted pregnancy he feels that his life is over if the woman has the baby. I think this is what pushes them over the edge and leads to violence. I do know that pregnant women are at higher risk for domestic violence, but I am not sure about murder.

in PG woman is now MURDER! not complications from birth. not pre-natal complications. MURDER!!!!!!!!
how insane is that???
6yrs ago when I was in nursing school it was the #1 cause of death in pregnant women so it's not a completely new phenomenon

Yes and I heard it is in the last month of pregnancy too because that is when it becomes real to the dad.
