Re: Leapfrog TAG reading system
i have to be honest.....im a teacher and i HATE that commerical for a variety of reasons....it makes nonfiction books look "stupid" or "uncool" to read which is something kids dont need bc most kids love fiction books but its so hard to get them to read about the "real" thing....and i personally feel like its a way of not letting the child learn the real process of reading bc its as if the thing is doing it for them....im sure its a method that might work for some kids but i just feel kids should have a foundation in reading or be very young and be using it to play instead of using this system to actually learn how to read ...this is my personal opinion....a have a newborn so i never used it/decided not to use it with my own children but i probably wont get it for my dd when shes older

Re: Leapfrog TAG reading system
Hmmmm never thought of it that way. Emma was 3, almost 4 when she learned how to read. Jeremy has just come to the stage where he wants me to read every book in sight to him. Over and over and over lol. He will be 4 in January. I was thinking this could help him do it on his own but yes, I see your point.

i know that HAS to be annoying after awhile to have to read the same book over and over but its soooooooooo much better having that learning/bonding time with u then the book doing it....he is still young he could just use it to play and its probably not an issue until i would say he actually starts the process of learning to read in school....then i would take it away

Im so glad you said this.. I was wondering if it was just me.
Im not a teacher but I personally LOVE to read. I hope to pass that on to my daughter. Reading has given me a lot of advantages over the years, even now.
I'm not so upset about the fiction/non fiction as you can always relate fiction back to the real world and let it 'continue' through a nonfiction book with 'real' animals, etc.
But reading for them? Whats the point? How can they learn to read if the book does it for them? Also where's the imagination part of it? I don't know. They seem cool and easy to use but at what cost to the child? Then again, with all those commercials it's going to be hard to say no to them too.
