Leather couches and pets.
My dh wants to go get leather furniture, which I love but, how do I deal with the dogs?
What do you do?

Re: Leather couches and pets.
I have a BIG dog (mastiff), with BIG nails. Who unintentionally scrathes everything. I just bought a leather set. I went with a Bicast leather. Bicast leather is shaved smooth, then coated with a thin layer of polyeurothane. If it gets a scratch, you can gently heat up the leather (with a blow dryer) and smoothe out the scratch. It really does work, i tried it the first day.
Hope this helps.

We have leather couch. I didn't want fabric because our dog sheds and it's much easy to wipe down the leather than fabric.

Re: Leather couches and pets.
i say don't do it!
our dog put a huge hole in our leather couch and we had to get a new set... now we have velvet.. and ever since we got the new set.. max is not allowed on it.. and he has not made any attempts to jump on the couches either.. i think he knows we mean business!
eta: that's the angelic face that put a hole in my couch.. but don't let it fool you! Image Attachment(s):

Re: Leather couches and pets.
We replaced our couch with a leather one and it was great. First, our dog wasn't really interested in it and never tried to get up on it (he always got on the old one). Secondly, it doesn't collect hair the way the fabric one did. It has worked wonderfully for us. If you are going to get leather, buy the protection plan, we did. We were warned that it didn't cover pet damage, so basically if the dog does damage the sofa, you have to report it slightly differently (ie, I punctured it with a pen).

Re: Leather couches and pets.
I'm so glad that I have leather couches - I have two small Yorkies, and when they were puppies, accidents happened. The cleanup is SO easy. It's also good when we have spills.
I probably wouldn't have bought leather couches if I had big dogs. Big dogs=big knarly nails.

I dunno.... my mom wanted a leather couch, but I don't think leather + cat works too well.... I suspect she'll do her best to baptize the couch with her claws, if you know what I mean.......
I guess it depends upon how nervous / destructive the dog tends to be
