leaving baby overnight?

Last night, DH surprised me with tickets to a Broadway show and dinner in the city at our favorite restaurant for Thursday night. That means we will have to leave DS with my parents. I don't know how I feel about this. Don't get me wrong, my parents are the only other people I trust as much as DH and I. My parents just adore Joey, and they are more than willing to take him overnight. I just feel like it's too early-- he's 5 weeks. But DH was so excited to do this for me to get me out of the house for the night, and he arranged the night at my parents and everything...I just don't know if I am leaving him too soon. I am the same way. DD is 3 months and the thought of leaving her overnight is making me upset. I am planning on leaving her at my parent's house next weekend. I think you should and have a great time!!! You can always call and check on him! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't think your being irrational at all. Rylan is 10 weeks old and i'm not even close to leaving him overnight with anyone.

Re: leaving baby overnight?

Why do you have to leave the baby overnight? Can't you get him late, after the show?
I'm sure it will be fine - but I wouldn't be ready to leave DS at 5wks (I'm not ready now at 12wks).Chat Icon

Re: leaving baby overnight?

We left DD for the first time at 3 weeks old. Sinc then she stays over my parents house at least 2x a month. My parents love it, and it gives us a break. Go for it!

Re: leaving baby overnight?

I don't think you are being irrational. My DS is 4.5 months and I haven't left him overnight yet.....when my DS was 2 months I had a party in the city I was hosting....I left him with DH and instead of staying overnight, I came home very late....but for me I felt better about it. Good luck, I think it sounds like a wonderful evening, but if you are really not comfortable staying overnight, just come back after!

Re: leaving baby overnight?

Irrational? No way! Do what you feel you can handle. I really enjoy when DD spends time at my sister's house, but it took me awhile to get there.

Everyone can leave their DC at their own pace. Just don't compare yourself to anyone else or let someone else compare you to another Mom. What works for one doesn't necessarily work for another.

Does it have to be an overnight thing?

Re: leaving baby overnight?

Thanks ladies! Chat Icon I guess we could pick him up after. It's just that we probably won't get back until after 11, and I didn't want to wake my parents and disrupt the baby. I know my parents wont mind waking up to give us the baby, I just feel bad KWIM? That may be a good solution though, go get him after and at least know he will be waking up with us in the AM. I'll have to call my mom later and talk to her about it. Thanks so much!

Same here. Athan was 5 weeks when I left him overnight with my mom (who watches him all day for us when we are at work) and since then have left him with her another 2 times for overnighters because of business trips. I know he is happy and safe (he has a crib and everything else he needs set up at her apartment), my mom is besides herself with joy for having her grandbaby, and I don't have to worry.

You are not being irrational at all. My son is 8 months and I have yet to leave him overnight at anyone's house. do whatever makes you feel comfortable. Like others said if you really do not want to leave him overnight maybe you can pick him up. Also, is it possible for your parents to watch him at your house.
