LED high hats creating shadows
I just redid recessed lighting in kitchen after redoing kitchen and find there are many shadows from them compared to the recessed lighting I had previous to this. Why is this? Is it the bulbs?

I’m sorry to say i Think it’s probably the placement. When we had our lights put in, the electrician was very careful to be sure they were X amount of inches away from cabinets and counters so there would be the least amount of shadowing
You can try and change the bulbs and see if it helps, but if they are too close to cabinets or spaced directly over a working surface, there will be shadows

Thanks. One is over sink in exact spot it was before. Although cabinets are more closer to window than before so it's more closed in and cabinets go to ceiling. Most of them are in same place, but we did add some. All these things you never think of when redoing kitchen.

My sister had this problem so she changed the whole fixture. The original ones she purchased were more expensive but the the size where the light Showed through was a lot smaller. It was showing shadows in the empty room. She returned for the cheaper ones with a bigger opening and it fixed it.

It's the LED bulbs, I never had that issue with regular bulbs. Then we changed them, and shadows all over. I hate it

Thank you. So she bought a fixture with a bigger opening where the bulb fits in?

They can be in the same spot but if cabinets come out more, it can cast a shadow. I would check with electrician and see if they recommend getting bigger or smaller lights to try and remedy the problem. We have all LED and don't have that issue

Thank you. So she bought a fixture with a bigger opening where the bulb fits in?
Yes. The original ones were like $70 each she thinks they were halo brand and 4 inch. They were the magnetic ones. They were supposed to be better and might have been in a smaller space but they were terrible. She replaced them with ones that had a wider lens.

I think my FIL once said something like the angle of the cone/shape of the rays of light that come down make a difference
A larger angle vs a narrower one makes a diff in the way the light comes out
?

Yes, placement will absolutely effect the lighting. We did out bathroom and the electrician spent 2 days here. For 45 minuted he showed me how and why he wanted to place the recessed lighting in certain spots. He was mindful of heat on head standing under them, and shadows in the mirrors. He used one to move around the room to get optimal lighting and show me why he wanted to put them in certain spots. I went with his professional opinion.
