Length of Resume
How long is your resume?
My resume was 2 pages long, but my DH said I should really condense it to 1 page.
I removed a bunch of non-essential things (where I observed, where I subbed while going to grad school - I no longer live in the area so those things are not going to "get my foot in the door") and I changed the font to 11 and it now fits on one page.
So the question is, do I leave it as 1 page or bump the font back up to 12 and have it just over 1 page....

Re: Length of Resume
I just had this conversation last night with 2 people. One who hires for AAA and one who hires for her school. They both said they don't even look at 2 page resumes.

Re: Length of Resume
my resume is 2 pages - 1.5 pages of typed text in 11 - 12 fonts. when i was laid off, the HR superintendent offered to review our resumes and she never said anything about condensing it - her only suggestion was moving certifications closer before experience.
if it's not fluff, keep it in - you want them to get a sense of who you are not just where you've worked
good luck!

Re: Length of Resume
Thanks Everyone!
Today I was at a conference and the mentor adviser also said to keep it to one page. She also had some other ideas, which I may or may not use. (Like adding an section entitled: interests and removing all descriptors for my teaching positions)

Re: Length of Resume
I also have a resume question. Do you put education first or experience? I'm getting mixed answers on this. Thanks!

Re: Length of Resume
i've been on interview committees before and they certainly look at resumes more than 1 page. as long as there is meat to it and not fluff it is totally fine.

Re: Length of Resume
Keep it to 1 page. I have 14 yrs experience and if I had to redo it, it would still be 1 page. After sitting on numerous selection committees, I can say, all we look for or care about is prior experience. We don't even read the info about the experience. Just dates/location of employment. So, keep it short. Eliminate student teaching if you have experience, keep it if you don't. But don't go crazy adding every single unit of study or lesson on a resume. That shows LACK of experience. Do use buzz words like TC, Wilson, etc. if you're trained in it..... That will go far.

Re: Length of Resume

Education should go after Experience unless you are a recent graduate or have been out less than 2 years in a FT position.

Interesting you should say this. The lead mentor teacher I met with said:
Certification (most important!), Education and then Experience.
I have shortened it to one page. I know I was on an interview committee and we looked at people with more than one page, but I think I summed everthing up nicely on one page.

Re: Length of Resume
I list certification with education after experience. I think they want to know experience mostly.
With OLAS (or any of the softserv) you have to list your certifications, so I'm sure they weed out any non-certified that way.
my resume is 2 pages (1 3/4) there's really nothing I would want to cut out. I've done a lot in the 16 years since graduating.
