Lesser of two evils? eating watching TV or starving?
So, at 10.5 months...Josh is a horrible eater. At 4 months old I started this battle. A great meal is Josh eating 2 bites. That means he liked it. He breastfeeds non stop. I can't wean him since there is nothing to wean him to(allergies)...so he really needs to start eating.
We always sit in the dining room and eat. I have 2 high chairs, in case the first one I bought was the problem. still nothing. I always try and eat with him so he will see that...nothing.
Last week, Leo was watching King of Queens, Josh has very little interest in TV, so I was shocked when he laughed at Arthur while in his highchair. I moved highchair in living room and he started eating his meatloaf. He ate his waffles yesterday in living room and his pasta and meatballs tonight. This is huge for us. But, its all in front of the TV during King of Queens
I moved him into living room with no TV on, he did not eat.
So, he is eating a variety of foods in front of the TV...Leo and I still eat in dining room and I put Josh in the highchair so he knows this is what we do....
any thoughts?

That is the only way I can get Lance to eat. I feel bad doing it, but he will not eat otherwise.

That is the weirdest thing... What does TV have to do with him eating. I winder what makes him click the two things together.
Eh - if it takes him 30 minutes to eat, at least he is eating!
Plus, I love the King of Queens - so I say, let him watch

I say do what you have to! Its not like he's watching two hours a day or something inappropriate.

I agree. I always said I wouldn't let Lily watch TV while she eats, but most of the time it's what happens. Our dining room & living room is all one room. When we're in a house and she's eating in the kitchen with no TV I think we'll have a problem. I tried turning the TV off, but she definitely eats more when the TV's on.

Oh well, there goes Harvard!
When my husband works late, my daughter's dinner often ends up being in front of the TV.
I'm sure you are doing the best you can do, and if this is what works then so be it!

thanks!
I do have to admit, I love having a child who now eats...picking up 3 meals a day from the floor was getting old.

My DD often eats her meals with the TV on. In the morning, Jo Jo's Circus is the show of choice. Lunch and dinner are either Baby Einstein or Bear in the Big Blue House. She wouldn't sit otherwise.

You can always wean him off TV during meals when he gets older. Right now, I would let him watch TV and eat.
Makes for a great bargaining chip later....

Ella would always eat more when she was distracted. She didn't watch TV, but if she was playing with something in her highchair, she'd let me sneak a lot more food in. Of course now, she has to feed herself everything, so it doesn't work anymore

Same for me DS. If he get's into one of his moods and I leave him and ignore him he eats otherwise he gets annoyed and throws it. I hate that he does this but like your Josh, my DS isn't a big eater and this is how we have to get him to eat.
