Lesson learned when it comes to fellow parents at daycare: Keep your mouth shut

OMG. I'm an arse.Chat Icon

Yesterday I picked Riley up and she hadn't finished her bottle yet. So I stayed to help her finish it. As I was doing this, I heard the most awful cry from one of the babies. She was over on the other side of the room, playing with another baby. Apparently this baby has a habit of biting. From what we could tell, she bit the little girl. I saw the bite marks...and man my heart went out to the kid who was bit. When these things happen, they file an accident report.

This morning, I see the baby's dad and I say, "How is Alex doing this morning? I was there for the incident and felt so bad" And he was completely confused. He had no idea it happened. Apparently the bite didn't break the skin so they didn't file a report. But wouldn't you still say something to the parent, if you were the teacher?

Oh boy. I felt horrible on so many levels. I can't get this out of my mind now.

I saw one of the ladies involved and explained myself and she was okay about it, but the look on her face...Chat Icon I just felt awful. She took care of the child right away, and held her...but geez, not notifying the parent. ESPECIALLY when another parent was in the room. Oh boy....

But I still feel like an arse.Chat Icon

These teachers are gonna be SO glad we're gone this summer. Chat Icon

Thanks for listening.Chat Icon

They should have told the parents JMO!! My daycare workers tell me every little thing DS does. I have a really friendly relationship with them. If someone BIT my kid.. i don't care if it broke the skin or not..I'd want to know!!

BTW...you did nothing wrong but I can see how you feel!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

How were you supposed to know that they didn't notify the parents? Chat Icon

I'm actually really surprised that they didn't, TBH. Regardless if it broke the skin or not, they knew you saw and the should have told the parents.

Our daycare does, skin broken or not.

That seems ridiculous to me - that they don't notify the parents if the skin isn't broken? I got notified if DS got so much as a tiny scratch on his face, even if he did it to himself! I would not feel bad at ALL Tara, if I were you. Chat Icon

Broken skin or not, the parent should have been notified.
I would have been pizzed!

My DS was bit a few weeks back.
I got a call immediatley (no broken skin).

I used to work in daycare and we had to write out reports even if a child scratched him/herself!

Don't feel bad! They shoudl've reported the bite whether it broke the skin or not. If I found out about this and wasn't notified ALL HELL would break loose! I'm glad your slip let that poor parent know what happened. Wouldn't you want to know if it was your baby?

Mine too - don't feel bad. The parents should know about these things.

If I was the parent, I would be happy you told me!!!

The daycare should've told the parents. Definitely don't feel bad about anything!
