Let's Confess..

Let's discuss foot-in-mouth moments, the things you wish you never said.

I figure, it's Sunday, and I'm no holy gal, but I hear there is something about forgiving ourselves and others, or something like that.

I'd like to share some 2 of my shame-worthy foot-in-mouth moments. These kind of confessions keep me human, after all.

-When my best friend got engaged and called to tell me about it, I literally had just gotten off the phone with my boyfriend, and we had just decided to end things. When she told me, all giddy with excitement, I told her that "Now is not a good time..I just broke up with so&so." I made her cry and feel super bad, even to this day.

-I told my boss to shut up. It slipped out.

My BFF was preggo with twins when we set our wedding date. She was my MOH and had to back out b/c she was on bed rest at 20 weeks.

The night we gave the hall the last payment (it was 2 weeks before the date) my BFF called to tell me that her doctor told her she couldn't go to the wedding due to strict bed rest.

I was so upset but instead of communicating my feelings I was a brat and said "well I wish I wouldn't known a little earlier today b/c I just wasted$200 on your plates"

Who says that? I was such a brat! She had to get off the phone b/c she was hysterical. I drove to her house to apologized and we cried together.

I work with an older woman in my classroom and was describing when specific historical events took place to my students. I said to the woman I work with "Oh, you might remember when this went on, how old were you, like five?" She seemed really embarrassed!! I didn't even realize what I was saying at the time but thought about it after and felt like such an a$$!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have one.. that i feel soo bad about..


I had one student (a young adult student) who was CONSTANTLY falling asleep in class.. like physically unable to sleep.
So one day she didn't come in to class... the next day she comes with a doctor's bill. I saw the price and it was over $300... so without thinking I said, oh your poor thing, you had to pay 300 dollars for the doctor.
Then I looked at what the bill was for.
An abortion.



I wished I hadn't even commented on it. I had no words after that. I still to this day think of it and feel bad. I know that girl must have been going through some personal turmoil and there I am like an idiot making a comment like that.

I'm surprised she showed you something that personal, rather than just a note from the office that says she was there or something!!

just recently, my mother reminded me of this one... she's so kind

i was being a brat and was going through a religious rebellion.

my grandmother made a comment about a church friend. i then, sit up and say something along the lines of... feeling that old ladies that are always in church feeling holy only do it because they know they're running out of time before death and they want to pray the sins they committed in their youth away. i went along to say that they were hypocrites.

my poor grandmother just about died

the crazy thing is that i, honestly, was not lumping my grandmother in that bunch. to me, my grandmother is almost a saint... so it was all the worse.

i apologized, the next day... when i realized how stupid i had been

I can't recall specifics but I totally admit I have had cases of foot in the mouth a few times.

When DH and I got engaged, my mother announced her engagement the same week to a guy we only met twice... and it's her third marriage. I saw soooo upset that she was taking the thunder away from my big event. A few months later I found out I was pregnant with DS and happily planning our first child, well not long after my sister announces that she is preggo and I lost it. I totally went off on how irresponsible she was (she's 20 and not married and just started dating her boyfriend again after taking a break) and why did this have to happen when I was pregnant etc. Well I ended up feeling like such a jerk because she obviously didn't want to be pregnant yet and was scared to tell my mom so she confided in me and I totally scolded her all because I wanted just one event in my life to be about me (we had a horrible childhood)
now we live together so she is def getting her payback lol

I was 16, working in Burger King and on the register at the Drive Thru. I would open the store on Sunday mornings at 7am and this woman would usually come thru every single Sunday. One Sunday, I had a guy working drive thru with me and sure enough, she comes through. When she pulls up to the window, I say to the guy (like a dumb @ss) "this woman likes me. She comes every Sunday morning b.c I think she is a lesbian and likes me"
The guy I'm working with goes:
"well, she IS a lesbian and she is my Aunt"

I thought I was going to DIE!!!

The day my boss came back from maternity leave, I blurted out that she looked exhausted.

She told me that no, she actually felt great and was happy to be back. Whoops.

I saw a small kid with their family once and they had curly red hair (just like me). I thought it was cute and commented "well if you are wondering what she will look like when they are older, just look at me "..

...the family said "we hope not! he is a boy"

At my nieces dance recital, my brother in laws gf was there, sittin next to me, and I yelled out the name of one of my nieces, but not the other. She said to me "wow, what kind of aunt are you, not yelling out the other ones name?".

Well, I got REALLY mad and said "atleast im a real aunt".

lol, not the nicest thing, but after all the stupid, mean things shes said to me, she kinda deserved it.

I had a very strong reaction to a name my friend wanted to use for her son. It's the same name as my crazy co-worker, and I reacted badly on impulse.

I still feel kind of bad about it, but she didn't end up using the name anyway.

This one stands out in my mind and it seriously taught me a good lesson on being a good friend and I try not to talk behind my friends backs anymore:

A few friends were out in the Hamptons and one night we were all sitting outside on the deck of our house drinking wine and talking. I started getting tipsy and texting with one friend "J" who was at the table, talking bad about another friend "L" who was there. I ended up sending a text meant for my friend "J" that said, "Ugh, "L" is sooooo annoying right now" to L. "L" got the text and just looked at me and said, "Really, Cari?" I was caught and I felt terrible not just because I got caught, but because I hurt my best friend. Luckily she wasn't very angry at me, but I seriously learned a hard lesson.

Oy...I was at an event once and a woman who I didn't know (friend of a friend thing)....and she showed me a picture of a little boy and I asked if it was her grandson and she said no, it was her son. Whoops....

When someone got engaged, I said "awwwww" when I saw her ring. It was small and I was stupid.

My sister asked me to get her some soda when we were at my cousins house for Christmas Eve. I told her rather loudly do it yourself you have legs, while sitting next to my uncle who had last month had to get his legs amputated because of diabetes. I felt like a POS and went outside and cried

I told one of my students to "Be a Man", he is a14 year old who is legally blind and mentally disabled. He was scared to let himself into an empty house when it was dark.

I felt kinda bad about that one...

Too many to even come by...thank god my new years resolution is to take said foot out of said mouth.
