Let's spread the good...what do you like about other cultures/countries?
I love that in Europe, people go to the market daily and get fresh bread.

Even though I've never visited and have just heard this...I like that people in Japan do Tai Chi in the morning outside in parks. I think that is such a nice way to start the day.
I heard this from my Qi Gong instructor in college, so I assume that this tradition is actually true.

I love the relaxed nature of Europeans. In my dad's hometown, people hang out in the town square after dinner and just relax until 12 am even though they have work the next day. I love it!

I love the fact that people in other countries aren’t as concerned about what you look like and how much money you make, people like you for you.
I also love going in to supermarkets in different countries and looking at the packaging and the kind of things that people eat, and how they are designed.
I love learning the local lingo, and using it!
I love the fact that other countries care so much about new mothers, and new babies and their financial and emotional well being.
I love other countries so much, I moved to one!

I love how involved in the Church people are in Italy. I love that a man comes around and sells bread from the back of his van and doesn't care if you have enough money just this one time. . . I love how families hang out together. I went to a club ("disco") with my 50 year old aunts and uncles AND my 16 year old cousins. . . and everyone fit in just fine.

I am in love with Israel. It is a hard life, full of turmoil, but because of that, the people really have their priorities straight. They work to live, and although they tend to be in your face with their brunt honesty, I absolutely LOVE how giving they are to one another, and how connected they all are to their community and to their country.

You always here how Europeans 'look down on' Americans and are kind of unfriendly - but that has never been my experience. Each time I have travelled to Europe I have met with nothing but warmth and genuine interest from the hosts. Nobody has ever made me feel awkward or out of place or not entirely welcome. It's amazing.

I can't speak from experience, but I learned in my yoga class that in India people accept other's beliefs just as easily as their own and value other people with no questions asked - often when a question is asked in my class, my teacher will say "I'll answer that how they would in India -it's ALL good!"

I love how in Europe people will ask you where you are from and you tell them NYC and they always talk about how much they love NYC and how friendly and different we are from other americans.
I love how happy and peaceful the people of Thailand seem. Their government is corrupt, the cities are polluted, it's crowded and hot as hell but people keep their cool. They love talking to foreigners and at first it was a bit unnerving but we talked to so many interesting people!
I love London. The people. The rain. The fashions! It's the only place in the world I've ever been that felt like home

My ex boyfriend was from Blackpool! He could never understand how I could love the rain and mist so much! I guess if you live there it's different. Would Manchester be a fun place for a visit? Been to the usual places in england but never to the birthplace of The Smiths!

I love that other countries know about their country - they know their history. (I'm sure it is not everyone and perhaps only the people I have come across, but it was still eye opening).

Blackpool? Never. Did he take you up the tower? We aren't far from Blackpool....its a dump though!! In my opinion Manchester is a great place for a visit, you could do probably 2 days doing touristy stuff, there is an open top bus tour etc. We were bombed about 12 years ago and the city centre was flattened, and the city has really come so very far from that day. There is also spectacular countryside about 20 minutes outside of the city centre, so thats wonderful about Manchester. We have fantastic architecture, beautiful museums, and great nightlife!
I live two streets away from Morrisseys childhood home, last summer I met him in a shop here in the town that I work in and we had a chat about his boyhood neighbourhood. He was very nice.
Enjoy London! I am crap with knowing anything about London, but can help with Manchester! (come to visit)

No. We never got there. His parents were gone and only one brother was still in the UK. I think he was slightly embarrassed by it or something. He preferred to show me London and the surrounding areas. Sad. I would have liked to see it...even if it is as grotty as everyone says.
Will have to come to Manchester the next time we come over! I'll have to hit you up for some information. We have a few close friends who we are visiting in London this time around so our time is all taken up.

Re: Let's spread the good...what do you like about other cultures/countries?
In the Netherlands - I love that the post master made me learn some Dutch. Everytime I saw him he would say, "If you plan to live here, you must learn the language" and so I did (enought to get by) by watching tv and reading a dictionary. He was like a proud father.
In India - I love the traditions of family. When you come to visit you spend 2 days going from house to house and drink more tea than your stomach can hold. When you vist any store people treat as though they have known you all your life.
In France - I love that when you look lost someone will stop and help you w/o asking.
In Saudia Arabia - I loved the humming quiet just before the prayer went off. And that I wore nothing but panties under my Abaya.

It's a beautiful place. I found it so interesting there.
Yes - I was there for the Haj - I was a flight attendant at the time. We were doing flights back and forth from Jeddah and Riyadh to India.

Re: Let's spread the good...what do you like about other cultures/countries?
I was in Turkey as an actress for 3 weeks - I loved the pace and generosity of the country - even in a fast paced major city like Istanbul if you wanted to buy something in a shop (a rug, a piece of jewelry, a knick knack) you would have tea with the shopkeeper. I've never had more tea in my life - and I lived in Ireland for a year! The Irish have NOTHING on the Turks when it comes to tea consumption!
I've been to Paris a few times and honestly, the moment I looked lost or confused there were always multiple people offering help. Everyone was so polite. Maybe living in the most gorgeous city in the world does it to you.
Ireland - I could go on and on but the thing I loved the most was the fact that pubs would be full of multi generational families listening to music, chatting, having a pint, etc.
. . . and when last call had been served they would play the Irish national anthem and everyone would stand and sign along. (this wasnt the case in every pub I went to - but at the non touristy ones in Dublin 8 it was the case)
I think one of the greatest things about living in NY (and especially one of the boroughs) is that you can experience these cultures every day. Little India in Jackson Heights, Astoria, etc.
