Let's talk garden veggies (yes, I am ready for next Spring already!)
Did anyone try planting peas?
How is it to grow on LI?
Did you grow from seeds or plants?
TIA

Yup! How can you tell?
I bought a portable green house with 5 shelves for this year. I am not doing the mess of seed trays all over my kitchen counters for 2 months. I thought DH was going to kill me.
I got the one from Gurney's. Which one is a good source for seeds? I got organic seeds last year.

I haven't tried peas but I had the 5 rack greenhouse before DH built ours and it really works well!

I have one and used it last year! It is really great. I just got my catalogs too!! I believe I ordered from Johnny's seeds last year.
I never tried peas and I am debating on what to try this year. I had a bad bought of powdery mildew last year and it killed all my squash/pumpkin/zucchini plants.
I had killer carrots (still eating them) and AWESOME bush beans (as well as pole beans).

I've actually never ordered seeds so I don't know who is good or not. But I did get a Burpees catalog, and I see them sold in stores a lot too.
The only thing that irked me was seeing horribly invasive flowers in their catalog for sale. Do your research to avoid a problem!

i've been eyeing my burpee catalog almost every night!
i'm in a different zone than most of you, but i bet that peas would do just fine on LI.

i did peas for three years and i found a few things to be annoying... one being that you need ALOT of plants to yeild even one serving... then shelling them is a pita.... also they are not a full season crop so you get a harvest in late june early july and you are done.... so then you have these dying plants in your garden... imo it wasnt worth it
