Lets talk knitting
So Im sitting at work BORED to death and Im thinking to myself I want a hobby. Im wondering how hard knitting it? I think it would be cool to be able to make scarfs, blankets and other things. are there different types of knitting (are some easier than others?)

Re: Lets talk knitting
I just learned the basic stitches within the month. I am off making a scarf.
I found it very easy to learn the stitches. I kept practicing the tension of the yarn while knitting over and over. Just knitting and removing the same little scrap of yarn. Patterns look incredibly difficult to read, but will look back at them when I have more time.
Libby is the Knitting Bee around here.

Re: Lets talk knitting
I haven't knit in a long time!! I taught myself to crochet just some basic stiches. I bought Crocheting for dummies and another book to show me different stiches. I made a few things than just stopped. I recently starting messing around and decided to make an afghan. I am having such a good time. I would say go to your local library and get some books. Then go from there. It really is very relaxing!! Good luck!

Re: Lets talk knitting
I just taught myself to knit, this winter. I have made 4 coin purses, 1 purse and almost finished with a second purse and now working on a shawl. I think the shawl is coming out so well and I am having such a good time doing it. I started to learn to give my hands something to do and to help me with my stress/anxieties. I am loving it. My next project will be an afghan and probably another shawl.
Go for it!!! I bought the Klutz book for knitters and it has different projects and very easy to follow instructions.

Re: Lets talk knitting
I went online and found knitting videos. Very easy to follow.
I also bought a kit at the Christmas Tree store for $4.99 with a book, wooden, two different types of yarn to make a kids purse. The book alone is worth probably $25-$35.

Re: Lets talk knitting
ah, my favorite subject
knitting... starting off and learning the two main stitches is pretty easy.
i taught myself using the internet, a few years back and i love it!!
i suggest get yourself a skein of inexpensive yarn and a cheap pair of needles... and just jump in. the hardest part at the beginning are two things: feelign comfortable with the needles and yarn in your hands and the tension.
where are you located? maybe i can swing by and teach ya. i have lots of yarn and needles to share. let me know
