Let's Talk PreNatal Vitamins Please!
My prenatal is about $45 a month.
I just went to Target to refill my script and I looked at their Prenatal brand. The Target brand is 18.99 for like 250 pills.
I asked the pharmacist and she said the prescription is better and that they don't have a DHA supplement that is sold seperatly.
Is this true? Does anyone take generic and know of a DHA supplement?

If I were you, I would ask for samples at your office at every visit. When I found out my prenatal's (Duet DHA) were $40 per month - I was not shy about asking for the samples at all.

Re: Let's Talk PreNatal Vitamins Please!
i take the Target Brand prenatal- it was i think under $10 for 100 pills...
then the Enfamil Expecta DHA- which 1 month is $10 at walmart- and inside the box is a $2 off your next purchase coupon- so its only $8.
eta- there are alot of girls on here that take the target brand, thats how i found out about it.

Re: Let's Talk PreNatal Vitamins Please!
YES I do!!! Duet with DHA makes a generic! I was sick of paying $50 a month but my OB really doesn't like the over the counters unless I take a DHA AND an extra folic acid. So when my pharmacist told me that Duet was making them generic I jumped on them.
They are the same as the duet and they have DHA pills too. I have to double check the box but I think they are called pruet with DHA. I now pay $10 a month total for mine.

Re: Let's Talk PreNatal Vitamins Please!
I got sick from all the vitamins they offered me - all really upset my stomach.
I ended up just taking Centrum for both pregnancies........
Is that an option D?

Re: Let's Talk PreNatal Vitamins Please!
You can just take OTC PNV. Mine was covered , but had it not been that's what I would have done. I have asked 2-3 GYNs about the difference and they have all told me there is none or almost none People overseas(I know this from women from few different countries) don't get prescription vitamins they take OTC , and they have healthy and happy babies.

Re: Let's Talk PreNatal Vitamins Please!
hmm I'm taking pre-natal but now I'm nervous I should be taking DHA supplement. My doc gave me 4 boxes of samples to try but two of them have stool softener in them and I don't need that. (sorry if that was tmi)
but they are:
citra natal assure citra natal DHA prima care prenate DHA
should I just be taking those and hold out until my 8 week to ask about target brand just to be on the safe side?

I was on Citra Natal with DHA while I was pregnant..my OB gave me samples.
Now that I am nursing, she prescribed me the generic version of Citra Natal with DHA..it was like $10 for both. So yes, there is generic..HTH.

Re: Let's Talk PreNatal Vitamins Please!
I take the Duet DHA generic- it is called Renate DHA Extra. It's the same exact thing, a prenatal and then a separate DHA pill. the only thing is that the generic DHA pill is bigger. Not great, but I'll take it for the savings!

Re: Let's Talk PreNatal Vitamins Please!
I was taking Target brand when I was TTCing, now that I'm PG my doctor wants me on a script. My visit he gave me samples of Prenate DHA. They're HUGE, normally I can't take monster pills like this but for some reason I'm able to take these. If it becomes a problem, I'm going to notebook this post & ask about the generic ones mentioned.

Do you have to get a script for these?

Re: Let's Talk PreNatal Vitamins Please!
Well, originally my doc wrote the prescription for Duet and I didn't even think to ask for the generic. Luckily when I went to fill the prescription my pharmacist told me FYI- this is really expensive! She said she would call my doc and get them to fax over a new prescription for the generic. When I went later that day, she had done it and I paid $10 instead of $45! It was so nice of her to give me that heads-up and go the extra mile to save me the money.

I take the OTC target brand and my ob is fine with it. In fact my ob says it's cheaper too get the OTC ones than it is to get the script. I would ask your ob if they have a cheaper version or recommendation.

This is interesting b.c I take the generic Duet with DHA and it is called Pruet - I guess Duet with DHA have 2 kinds??
As far as the difference between OTC and scripts is that the OTC have less folic acid (usually 800mg) vs the scripts which have 1000 mg - so it depends on how much folic acid your OB wants you to take.

i also take a folic acid supplement....in addition to my target prenatal and DHA supplement.
diana - my target prenatals are in a pink and navy blue bottle - they just say: prenatal vitamins. they look like these - but not purple, PINK...

Re: Let's Talk PreNatal Vitamins Please!
I know that there are some OTC prenatals that have the DHA supplement. I would ask your doctor if that would be ok, or ask his thoughts on somethingless expensive.
