Let's talk Spanx
Had the last of my 2 kids 8 months ago and still need to lose 32 pounds but have DD christening in 2.5 weeks. I am eying up a dress (sad about the size I need to get) but need something to hold in the tummy a bit and trim the thighs a little. How are Spanx? Is is worth spending $100.00 on a waist and thigh shaper or do i just go for the shaper hosiery that is 1/2 the price. I'm a SAHM so I do not have to get dressed up often. Any other brands you recommend?

I don't know if the quality is comparable, but target had their own line. Might be worth lookinginto.

Re: Let's talk Spanx
What kind of Spanx are $100? Just curious, because I just bought a new pair at Lord & Taylor the other day for a wedding I have this weekend. I got the bicycle short kind - it definitely helps flatten the tummy and slim the thighs, but I don't like the ones that go up super high (to like right under the bra). But the ones I got were $32.00, I think (and that was full price at L & T).
But while I like Spanx, I have also bought other brands of less expensive shape wear from places like Annie Sez or Marshalls and I think they work just as well.
I mean, none of them make a dramatic change to your shape, in my opinion, but any kind of shape wear will slim your silhouette a little bit and avoid bulges and lumps under certain fabrics.

Yes, the ones that go super high and slim your thighs were $84.00 (OK , not $100.00 but up there in my opinion). Why do you not like that they go up to the bra? Do the ones you got for $32.00 have hosiery connected to them?

I just haven't found the ones that go up really high to be comfortable, and I think I had issues of the top of them rolling down on me (but it may have been a size issue or something). So I stick with the bike short style ones that go over my stomach but just come up to the natural waist, and go about halfway down the thigh. Those are good enough for me. They don't have hosiery attached, but I usually wear no hosiery (or in winter, I may wear tights, but forego hosiery). But to the wedding tonight, I am wearing spanx, no hose, and strappy shoes.
I wouldn't spend the $84 on the Spanx, though. If you want the higher waisted ones, I would try to find a less expensive brand.

Let's talk Spanx
I have spanx...I think I paid around 60? I got the brand name. I LOVE them. They are very slimming. Even though I only wear them maybe once or twice a year, its worth it because it makes me feel more confident.

Re: Let's talk Spanx
I have the one you are talking about. It doesn't necessarily make you look thinner. It makes you more smooth. I love what it does for me.
I tried the Target ones first and they were a no go. Not the same. They rolled down and didn't have the same affect.
eta: If you can, try them on at the store WITH the dress you plan on wearing so you can compare

Re: Let's talk Spanx
I love this thread, keep going with your experiences if you can! I bought a white summer dress and realized I need a full slip or something for underneath because it's a bit see through. I was wondering if there was shapewear that was a full slip including bra for that.

Re: Let's talk Spanx
Try Century 21. They have a lot of Spanx there and its pretty discounted. I also tried and LOVE Yummie Tummie (also sell it there)
