DH and I are looking into buying a swing set for Alex. I went to Wood Kingdom today and Chat Icon I was wondering which sets everyone out there has and if you are satistified with them.

Re: Let's talk Swing Sets?

we got one for 500 from TRU and it is great. We had to put it together ourselves which was a bit of a pain but DD loved it.

Re: Let's talk Swing Sets?

we are actually thinking of getting one from Cosco...the boys will still be a little young for most of them, but Im NOT paying $500 for a plastic one that they will only use one summer, so I figured i would invest in getting a good one that will last for years.

Re: Let's talk Swing Sets?

I bought my kids the old school metal swingset.

Let me tell ya....we have it now for 4 years...thing looks BRAND NEW!! We never cover it in the winter or anything.

This isn't it, but it's almost the same:

My friend has one of those wooden ones and it's coming apart and splintering already. And it was a b!tch to assemble.

We put our together in a few hours...even cemented it into the dirt.

Nope...not at ALL!!!

They are "powercoated" with some sort of sealer. There is not ONE spec of rust on it anywhere.

Even the chains for the swings have a protective plastic sleeve that you fit over the chains. Maily so they don't kink, but also to prevent rust.

I had a metal swingset as a child. We had it in our yard for 15 years....never a single spot of rust on that thing, ever! And that was with the old school METAL slides- that thing got HOT! Chat Icon Chat Icon

This is the one I like too, I wish they gave you the dimensions. The ones Wood Kingdom were so big. But they are having a good promotion. Free installation and 12 months no interest/payments.

Re: Let's talk Swing Sets?

I was thinking of getting one for DS for his second birthday but not sure if that would be too early.
The swingset that is pictured is the one I remember growing up. My goodness, good times! Chat Icon

Re: Let's talk Swing Sets?

We bought a Little tikes one for 300 (This one ). But I totally wish we would of waited. The DS played on it last summer a little but he has turned into such a climber I feel the little tikes swing set is going to boring for him now. Ill probably put the Little tikes on Craigs list or something. I really like the PVC swing sets at Wood Kingdom but they are to $$

Re: Let's talk Swing Sets?

We had a metal swing set growing up. Never rusted, but that's because it was aluminum. I'm sure joenick's is too. Aluminum can't rust. Without a coating on it, it can leave oxidation on your hands, which is what we got often. Your hands would be almost black after playing on it. An aluminum set should last almost forever. You are right! It is aluminum. And again, correct. We had a big magnetic butterfly that I wanted to attach to the swingset, and it didn't stick. Had to tie it on.

There must be a coating on the swingset because our hands don't turn black after playing with it. And that's pretty good cause like I said, we've had it out there for 4 years.

Love that set. I'm so glad we bought the "ALUMINUM" set rather than the wood. I had so many happy memories with my old swingset, I wanted the same for my boys.

Just looked online at Costco and they are $$$ too. Toys R Us seems to be the cheapest but you have to assemble yourself. I am so confused. I am thinking I am going to go with Wood Kingdom b/c of the free installation and 12 months interest free financing.

Re: Let's talk Swing Sets?

Well for now we hung a $20 little tikes swing from our tree and we bought this on craigslist. We will be buying a swing set eventually but this will hold us for a few years.

Im finding their prices to be doubled of what TRU or Cosco has...if a swing set is $1000, I wouldnt be willing to spend $2000 to have someone install it.
