Let's talk time out!
DS is really pushing our buttons. Like he stands up in the LR chair and knows and was told to sit down. He knows. He sits down then stands up again.
I have removed him from the chair, etc...
I started to do time outs. Removed from the scene and placed in the corner of the LR.
Of course, huge cries. He knows he is in trouble.
But my question is, he won't stay there. He "runs" back to me. I did it like 6 times this morning. Putting him back unsuccessfully. He gets hysterical crying and clings at my legs as "don't be mad at me mommy". I know I know....and I am not giving in.
How do you keep them in the "corner"?

Re: Let's talk time out!
Unfortunately, when we started out, we had to keep putting DC back in the corner. Sometimes, a 3 minute time-out took 45 minutes....
I hope they got something out of it, because I know *I* felt punished after it......
Sorry I don't have a better answer....

Re: Let's talk time out!
If he won't stay, I would hold him there. Don't acknowledge him or his cries, but hold him in the designated time out spot for allotted time (very hard I know)

OK. That's what I had started doing. Holding him there. That got worst and did let go and left him there.

Re: Let's talk time out!
I've found that holding them usually backfires. They have your attention, since you aren't doing anything except dealing with them. Since you are right there, they feel like they have a chance to make you change your mind, etc.
By putting them down and either getting out of their sight, or at least getting some distance and not looking at them, I feel like it sinks in more. They don't have your immediate attention, and you are focusing on something other than them (even if you are only pretending to watch TV... they don't know that.... )

Re: Let's talk time out!
Just stick to it and eventaully he will stay. When I first started timeouts with DD, she would do the same. It took some time, but I had to be consistent. Until this day she still cries the entire 2 minutes she's there, but she stays put.
Good luck
