Re: Level 2 at 17 weeks
Hmm, you've all got me thinking. My doc had me make two appts-one for 17 weeks for the AFP and the other at 20 weeks for the Level II. Why don't they just combine the two and have me come back at 18 weeks??

money.
it's possibly the main underlying factor...they get to charge for the tests and the sep. visits. especially if you have the tests done IN office...so you'll get your urine sample tested both times as well. you could ask if they'd let you combine the visit though. where's the harm?

I don't think the AFP was a sono for me
I had my Level II at 18 weeks on the nose and they told us without a doubt

Sometimes insurance gets tricky when more than one test is performed per visit. Sometimes they only pay for one. My AFP wasn't a sono.

They just told me the AFP was the blood test but I really would love to boost up my Level II by two weeks and not have to go in twice. Plus, I pay a copay every time and keep getting bills from Quest labs so maybe I will look into this-thanks!
Good luck Kathy!!

Yes, my sister was told at 17 weeks 4 days (she purposely scheduled early just to find out!)
