Re: Level II?

I believe thats the 20 week sonogram where it takes 1/2 hour to check measurements of heart, check out spine, etc.
You can also ask about the gender although I've heard that sometimes they can be wrong.
And I had that done a couple of weeks ago.

Re: Level II?

I had my 20 week one a month ago and when I called it the level II to the Dr. he said that's something entirely different. That's why I'm confused! They did the sono that looked at all the baby "parts" at my 20 week and asked if we wanted to know what it is. Chat Icon

Re: Level II?

I know my 20 wk sono appt is my level II sono and they're going to be measuring all the baby parts and hopefully telling us the sex of the baby! The impression I got was that it would be a lengthy sono (compared to the regular sonos I've been having), but I'm looking forward to it so much, I can't wait to watch the baby for that long. I'm going to bring my digital camera and video tape it if they'll let me Chat Icon

It depends of where you go I would guess. The dr that did my ultrascreen told me everything right there. She's doing my level II also so I'm sure she'll tell me things.

Have you had any testing done yet? Like the Ultrascreen or AFP test or blood work? You should have those things done, they can help detect possibly problems (IF there are any) and also if you're a carrier for any diseases like cyctic fibrosis or what the % chance is the baby will have Fragile X, Trisomy 18, Downs, Spina Bifida, etc.

Re: Level II?

I had a Level 2 (thats what the dr called it) at 21 weeks and it was a lengthy sono. I had to go to the hospital for it. They measured everything - checked the body parts and told me the sex.

Re: Level II?

No i choose not to have any tests done. I heard there are a lot of false positives and I did not need to stress anymore than I have been.

yes there are rates of false positives...I wanted the tests done anyway bc I'm paranoid and bc of family history. Its all a mattter of preference, unless you're over 35 then they recommend an amnio bc your chances of a downs baby are higher.

It depends. If your doctor does it in their office, yes they will tell you right away.

My doctor sends you to a radiologist for the 20 week sonogram, and they are not allowed to tell you anything there, the report gets sent to your doctor and they tell you.

But the tech who did ours was really nice and told us that everything looked great to her, so we didn't have to worry.

I had an AFP and I got a negative. I have to say, its a big relief to be able to eliminate some worries.

Re: Level II?

I think not every doctor orders a level II, some only order it when they see something wrong.

My 20 week was not a level II but it was so amazing- we saw the chambers of the heart, the spine, all the bones- it is so great!
