Level II was a big disaapointment

Eveyone has told me how nice The level II was for them, that you got to really see your baby. Well I really didn't get to see my baby very well. The sono tech was like I will take my measurements and then show you the baby. I asked her what they were measuring and she sort of blew me off. After she did what she had to she showed me the baby but never kept the wand in one place long enough for me and my husbabnd To enjoy this
(my husband left work for this). Then the Radiologist comes in to check and she turns the screen further away From our view. I am sooo disappointed. I have had alot of sonograms during my pregnancy so I feel Fortunate in that way but I would like to enjoy each one. I was so upset the whole day after this!! Am I being unreasonable? Should I call And complain?

I'm really sorry. I had to have the second half of my Level II completed at a facility (not my OB office) because the first time, the baby wouldn't cooperate. They did the exact same thing to me. It was rushed, she didn't want me to ask any questions, I got no pictures and the screen was turned away from me the whole time. I know you feel jipped (sp?). Just know that the baby is healthy and you will see he/she again soon. Chat Icon

I wouldn't call & complain but next time tell them exactly what you're expecting. The sono tech must have been rushed.

No this sono tech was like that last sono fortunately the radiologist that was on was Amzing and really took time to show me my baby. This time it was bad with both radiologist and sono tech!! Oh well What can I do!! The baby is doing great!!

I'm sorry you were disappointed! Sometimes the techs forget that they see these things all day, but we only get very few opportunities to enjoy it.

Re: Level II was a big disaapointment

That's a shame really. The best appts for me were my Level 1 and 2. Well my first sono tech for Level 1 sounded a lot like yours but she did give us some really good pictures and told us that everything looked great. The 2nd one tought us so much about measurements and zoomed in on certain body parts and explained what he was looking for and so on.

Sometimes I think these people look at us like Deli Numbers. We're just a number to them and like I said before it's just a shame.

Re: Level II was a big disaapointment

I've noticed that a lot of the sono techs are desensitized so they arent really too informative while they are doing the sono. for my level 2 the tech spent the first 30 min or so doing measurements and we couldnt really tell what she was looking at...the exciting party was finding out the sex though and getting some good pics. i guess as long as they are doing their job and measuring what they have to i cant complain...
at my growth sono i didnt even get to look at the screen or get a pic!!!

Re: Level II was a big disaapointment

My level 2 was kind of the same. She told me what she was measuring, but didn't keep it there long enough for me to really see it. I don't think they realize how exciting it is for us. But let's face it, we would lay there all day to watch the baby. And I STILL don't know what I'm having yet. The tech didn't seem sympathetic to my disappointment about that either.

Re: Level II was a big disaapointment

When I went for mine they pretty much had the screen turned towards them, I didn't mind because I knew they had alot of measurements to make and they need to get it done fast because the baby doesn't always cooperate and stay in one position.

When they were done they turned the screen around towards us to get a quick shot of the baby. You'll have more ultrasounds where you'll be able to see the baby again so don't feel upset.Chat Icon

i'd let your doctor know you were not happy with the facility you were at. I had to go back for my level 2 because they were not able to get a heart image and the second time was rushed and i didn't get a picture then either... i told my doctor this the other day and she suggested i call them and ask for one

Re: Level II was a big disaapointment

I'm so sorry Amy that sucks. I had to ask what the sono tech was measuring but she was friendly enough to tell me. I wouldn't complain but if you need to have another sono done at that place I would request a different sono tech. That was really suck of her to turn the screen away from youChat Icon

There is one tech at North Shore Manhassat that is like this. She is borderline rude!!!!!!!!! Thank Goodness the doctors are so nice....Personally I would complain.

Re: Level II was a big disaapointment

Same thing happened to us. She went over the organs, then said 'Here I go between the legs'. She was there quickly then said 'Oh, there's the scrotum!' Then she turned off the machine and was done. We didn't even see anything. I never thought I'd be told it was a boy by hearing about his scrotum. We were peeved.
