Lexapro or any other SSRI's during pregnancy
I am going to see a high risk doctor for a pre-pregnancy consultation. I am on Lexapro and have tried to come off meds...but I cant. Has anyone taken or are you taking any sort of SSRI's during your pregnancy? I know there are no wrong or right answers, just looking for some advice. Thanks

Re: Lexapro or any other SSRI's during pregnancy
Prozac is considered to be the best during pregnancy because once the baby is born there is less of a chance that the baby will go through withdrawals (like they do with other SSRIS) because of the way the drug is metabolized.

Re: Lexapro or any other SSRI's during pregnancy
I have severe anxiety. The 1st trimester is always the worst for me. With both pregnancies I had to take a lose dose of paxil which I started around 8 weeks each time when I was at my "breaking" point. I consulted a high risk dr, a pediatric cardiologist, my OB, pediatrician and my neighbor who is a pharmacist and all said they were not concerned being the dose was so low and the studies are NOT conclusive. There is a fallacy that one SSRI is safer than the other and that is NOT the case....they all have the same possible risks, some just get more attention than others or have been studied more than others.
All told me the benefit of me taking it far outweighs any risk. Needless to say, DS is now 2 and his heart is perfectly healthy along with the rest of him.

Re: Lexapro or any other SSRI's during pregnancy
Thank you so much for your responses. Its making me feel a lot better about all of this. I know I am not the only one going through something like this....but sometimes it feels like I am. And I agree....I think it would be worse for me to NOT be on something. Its just the question of what. Thank you again.

I am not sure about Lexapro, but I was on Cymbalta when I got PG-my doc said it was okay until the 3rd tri. I just went off of it anyway at 11 weeks.

Re: Lexapro or any other SSRI's during pregnancy
I take 75mg of Zoloft daily for panic disorder. I took it the whole pregnancy with my DD and she had no side effects. I even BF her for 8 months while taking it. My OB and Ped. both agreed that under 150mg, there really were no risks and it was more dangerous for the baby to feel my anxiety.
