Re: Lexapro..who writes your prescription
My ex husband was on Lexapro and he had to go sit with the psychiatrist every single time he needed a new prescription. He would just ask "how are you feeling?" he would answer, write a prescription and he would leave. The way it was explained to him, he NEEDED to go see the doctor in order to get the script.

Re: Lexapro..who writes your prescription
Since it's for PPD, can you ask your gyno to write it up for you?
My husband was on it but was seeing a therapist. They switched up his meds to something else and now has his neurologist write it up. Basically for the same reason you mentioned. He felt he wasn't getting anything more out of the therapist and she recommeded turning it over to his neurologist.

Re: Lexapro..who writes your prescription
Im pretty sure most general drs wont write the script. After you are on Lexapro for a few months I think the psych/therapist will give you a 2-3 months perscription. Usually never longer then that b/c they want to check in on you and see how u r feeling, as mental health issues they take quite seriously. When I would go--Id usually see my psych, say im feeling this or that and then be on my way. It sucks to pay the copay and take the time but its really the only way they seem to do it.

Re: Lexapro..who writes your prescription
My primary care gave it to me when I used to take it.(I had bad PPD) I was on it for a few years. He did always ask me if I was going to therapy, asked with who etc. He always gave me 3 months at a time.

I'm not on lexapro but I'm on a different drug on get it from my psychiatrist but thankfully I pay $10 per visit. I would suggest asking your PCP to prescribe.

Re: Lexapro..who writes your prescription
I was diagnosed with PPD last year. My OB had my PCP write the script. My husband was also on it a while back and our PCP also wrote the script. It is BS that you have to see a therapist to get it.

Re: Lexapro..who writes your prescription
Just wanted to say that as a social worker, I am starting to have a really hard time finding primary doctors who will write scripts for psych-related drugs.
I believe it has to do with the changes in the laws over the past couple of years (i.e. must see you face to face to give you a script) and lots of doctors getting arrested for writing scripts for controlled meds like candy. PCPs want to ensure a "specialist" is also treating the specific condition.
It's tough. I am dealing with this right now with someone who refuses to see a psychiatrist but needs it in order to remain in the community.
I finally got their neuro to agree to write the script BUT with the understanding they must agree to see a psych in the next 3 months. This also was after she had to scrutinize their medical/psych history paperwork for days.
My own Ob-gyn no longer will call in a script for my b/c to the pharmacy over the phone. I have to go there in person now. At least she doesn't charge anymore and will give me free samples.
It $ucks but in this sue-happy world, I understand why most doctors want to cover their a$$.
