LI-IVF retrieval ?
Do they give you anestesia?(sp?) I'm doing too much reading and some of the ppl's experiences that I'm reading (not a patient at LI-IVF I don't think- I don't even know where they're from) mentioned that she woke up a few times during the retrieval I know I'm way ahead of myself but I am terrified of IVs.... I've had one before but the woman REALLY hurt me and ever since I'm a HUGE baby when it comes to getting one... Silly I know, given that I've been able to give myself injections.... but this is seriously the part of IVF that i'm working myself up about

Re: LI-IVF retrieval ?
I obviously don't go to LI-IVF, but I was knocked out for my retrieval. It was terrifying for me because I had never been under or had any sort of surgical procedures done before.
I don't think I could have gone through IVF if I wasn't out for it!

Thanks! It's sad, but I have had IVF in the back of my mind since DH and I have started dating... when I found out I had PCOS... and it always sounded so terrifying to me... now i know times have changed- i watched my cousin and Dhs cousin go thru it (twice and 3 times) as well as a co-worker of mine who used to give me her daily updates and she terrified me the most- talking about the size of needles, and their thickness, and how women were lined up every morning at 5:30 to get shots... now granted this was 10 years ago... but still, it stuck w/ me. I know I'll have to be fully knocked out- otherwise I don't know how I'd go thru w/ this. Waking up for me after anestesia was no picnic either for me- I remember being violently sick and had an awful headache- but I'll manage given the possible outcome if that's what has to be done. Thanks for always taking time to answer my posts!!

Re: LI-IVF retrieval ?
The retrieval itself is not a long procedure! My DH told me I was in the OR for less than 15 minutes.
Also, remember, your last IUI cycle protocol was basically an IVF protocol. The only scary needle in IVF is the Progesterone shot, and honestly, I found that less uncomfortable than the sub q shots! It was not bad at all, I think it bugs my husband more than it does me.

the PIO shot goes in the very top of your buttock, those are the IM shots- you can have the nurse draw a bullseye so that you know exactly where to inject it. If I remember the HCG is IM too, but they really aren't painful, they just look bad because it's a long needle...
you should search for the injection videos on youtube, they'll show you that they're not really that bad.

isn't HCG ovidrel, or no? I did my ovidrel in my stomach w/ my 1st IUI to trigger (that's where my dr told me to)...
How long are PIO shots taken? Does everyone have to take them that does IVF?

Re: LI-IVF retrieval ?
My trigger is Ovidrel and I take it in the belly.
I think some RE's have different protocols for the PIO's. My RE makes me stay on them until I think 11 weeks pregnant. The shortest time you would be on them would be from the day after your retrieval through the 2WW. If you are pg, you stay on them, if not, then you stop. I have seen some of the ladies here only be on the PIO's for a few days then move to suppositories. My RE will only allow me to move to suppositories if I have a bad reaction to the PIO's.
With that said...lt's now time for my Lupron shot.
Have a good evening all!

Every clinic may be different but most take PIO shots starting at retrieval and through the first 8-12 weeks of pregnancy.

Re: LI-IVF retrieval ?
Each clinic has it's own protocol.. LIIVF gives anesthesia for the retrieval (every clinic does, it's surgery) and you stay awake for the transfer. The retrieval takes a few hours, the transfer about a half hour. LIIVF has always had me do PIO shots for 3/4 days, starting the day before transfer, and then progesterone suppositories. But, protocol is different for each person...the Dr. will adjust shots/pills/suppositories based on your history and bloodwork. My protocol for my second IVF cycle was completely different from my first.

Re: LI-IVF retrieval ?
LI-IVF told me last month that for retrieval it is just IV sedation not general anesthesia. Kind of like what you get when you have oral surgery. I definitely prefer that over general.
ETA: I was also told that I would be taking 3 PIO shots and then suppositories (which actually look more like pills than suppositories )

Thanks - I can handle the IV sedation-- I had that w/ my wisdom teeth but it took a while to set in... I'd almost rather general anesthesia..
YIKES is all I have to say- I can't imagine doing that 3 or 4 times, no less 12 weeks so I'm really glad to hear a few of you who go/have gone to LI-IVF all seem to be saying just a few days of the PIO shots... Ah the joys of TTC...

I've done IV sedation for my wisdom teeth and retrieval and for me at least, they were different. The IV for the retrieval was definatley faster. Also, I woke up during the middle when they were taking out my wisdom teeth!! That was horrible. I never woke up during retrieval and I've done 2.
As for the PIO, I actually prefered it to the suppositories! It was less messy and I just felt like it was working better.
