Liam is scheduled for his second surgery! And question for BTDT eartube/adenoid moms.

This time he is getting his second set of tubes and his adenoids removed. He isn't even two yet.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Poor baby. And I can see the writing on the wall about his tonsils as well but, the ENT and ped both feel he is too young right now.

And his surgery has to be on Valentines Day. I tried to schedule it for Feb. break so he would get the whole week home to relax and re-coop but, the doctor is away from the 15th until some time in March and he has two infections in less than a month. I can't let him go through what we went through last winter.. soooo here we go!!

Dh and I are both taking off the 14th for the surgery.. then I will have the 15th off and he will take the 16th. I really hope he can go back to daycare on the 17th because I am quickly approaching 0 sick days left. Any experience with this? How long was the recoup? They said he would probably go first or second that day (7-8ish AM).

I think they do it at the Melville Surgi Center for us. The ENT is in Plainview. Tubes were not so bad. He was really okay the next day. Just a bit tired and cranky. Then he went back to day care the day after that. Good luck!!

DD#1 was 5(in kindergarten) when she has her surgery. She was really fine the next day. I had to stop her from hula hooping in my living roomChat Icon . However, they do worry about bleeding and want them to rest. If I recall correctly, the Dr wanted her out of school for a week and no gym for 2 weeks.
Good luck to you and your LO

recoup is really just the day of at most.

AJ had an infection going in for her tubes and altho they drained it during the surgery it only got worse later so she was out for 3days. I scheduled for a Friday to give us the weekend just in case.

Really? The woman that schedules the surgery told me 2 or maybe 3 days. He is too young for gym.. but, everyday is like gym for them at that age, kwim. I specifically asked her if he could go back in three days and she said yes. I guess I should call back. If that's the case I would prefer to do it on a friday and take off monday/tuesday, kwim. I just cannot take off a full week right before I have feb. break. I would be brought before the union, I think!Chat Icon I would be so pizzed if I got there and they told me one full week. However, If I don't do it on the 14th I have to wait until MarchChat Icon

Did AJ get adenoids also? The tubes, we have been through already. He was totally fine and back in daycare two days later.(he only missed the day of the surgery and the next day) I worry about the adenoids though. I had DH and I take off the day of the surgery and the next two days. I hope that's enough. I don't know what I would do if he had to stay out until Friday. There is no one to help watch him.

Chat Icon i know it so hard having to do this! DS (18 months) just had tubes in and adenoids out in january. i was so worried about every aspect of it from the anesthesia to the recovery etc. it really went SO much better than i expected! especially the recovery. DS was almost back to normal by that night! i was so surprised. the worst part (and i was warned) was when he came out of the anesthesia. it was awful b/c he was disoriented, crying hysterically etc..nothing we could do but wait it out and hold him. it was hard to watch.
other than that all went well! DS doesn't even know what happened!
hang in there-your DS will be ok!Chat Icon

ETA-DH and i took off the day of the surgery, the day after and then i took the day after that. my mom watched him at home that friday and he was back in daycare the following tuesday (since monday was MLK day)

Thanks for the encouragement. I am so worried. Ds had tubes but, I was really super sick and I was actually rushed to the ER by ambulance the Friday before and spent 5days in the hospital. Soooo I wasn't there for it!!Chat Icon So DH has BTDT but, I am all upset. I wound up getting discharged that night so I saw the recovery was a piece of cake but, I didn't see the waking up part!Chat Icon

ETA: So do you think having the surgery on Monday and sending him back on Thursday would be too quick? I just don't know what to do. I am very worried to wait until March. I don't want any more infections since he has a history of C. diff and really needs to steer clear of antibiotics for a while.

Yes, it was def. at least a week that I was told. We used Dr Litman in Port Jeff, not sure if all Dr's are different. I would call and ask the Dr.

We don't have experience with this particular surgery. Coming from someone with a DS who had 4 surgeries before 2 and a handful more after that (including one coming up next week), I totally understand.
