Liberty Science Museum and the Statue?

Has anyone been to this museum recently? If we come up to LI my DH wants to take the kids there as well as hop on the ferry and take them to the Statue of Liberty right from the museum area I believe. There is a special going on or something, lol. He said it was an awesome museum back when he was a kid but obviously it's been many years since. I know it's in Jersey, but we'd stop there on the way in to LI. Thanks!

ETA: We thought of doing this instead of going into the city since we now have the baby. And then when she gets older we'll go into the city again. We took the boys into the city a couple of years ago.

I haven't been to the museum, but if you want to go up into the statue, you need to buy tickets 2 months in advance. I worried about DS getting up, but it was my 66 yo mom that had trouble!

If you buy just the platform ticket you can use an elevator.
