How can you check if a contractor really is licensed and insured??

you can call the department of consumer affairs in county that you live in.

They should have their number on their business card/ or estimate paper. Anyone that is licensed and insured pay a ton of money for it and will flash it all over.

Lots of contractors let their policies laspse but still have the " licensed and insured" on their paperwork. Only way to know for sure is to call consumer affairs
