Light-colored living room furn....dumb?

So we ordered our sofa and love it; it's linen and very light cream. We also ordered our dining room and the upholstery is also pretty light...but so gorgeous. Now I'm worried. I know we will try and be careful, but others?! Was this dumb even though it's exactly what we envisioned for our living/dining room? Mind you, DH picked most of the fabric! We did get the furniture protection plan, (ethan allen) so I feel better, but still. I can already see certain guests making me nervous; my mom assures me that's why our downstairs is casual and more for "hanging out." I haven't even gotten the stuff yet and family holidays are already worrying me. LOL.

We have light colored fabric on our DR set also. I thought about it when we ordered it, but I really liked the fabric. I know I will worry a lot more when we have kids, but there is nothing I can do about it know. If it is what you love then don't worry too much about it. You can always get new fabric put on it over time. Chat Icon

Thanks. Chat Icon Truthfully, I'm not a "dark" person. We got 2 awesome traditional stripe arm chairs for the living room, and this light color looked best with that pattern; I could have gone into browns, but was like....nah! Now I am concerned, but thanks for your input!

We could have gone with browns too, but I didn't like how it looked either. We bought cherry wood for the DR and the light beige color looked the best to us. Don't worry too much! The striped arm chairs sound really nice. Have a pic?

Mom is big into the light (and I mean white) colored furniture and whenever we have guests we usually eat on the couches (Bengali family - no formal dining room) and with curry - this seemed like a really bad idea to me.... I scotchguarded the heck out of the couches.

This was years ago, but wouldn't you know, the first time we had people over, someone spilled an entire cup of tea all over the love seat! Most of it just kinda sat on top of the scotchguard and we mopped it up. Honestly, you can't see the stain at all.

Good luck!

If we didn't already have a sectional that's in good shape, I would love to get light-colored living room furniture. As long as you scotchguard them they should be fine... just keep red wine and grape juice away to be safe!

I don't know if I'm supposed to scotchguard; Ethan Allen might be pre treated. I am going to ask the salesperson we bought from. She did tell me I could use "solvent" cleaner on the dining room chairs.

Edit: Oh! No s.guarding; it "voids" the protection warranty! I just read this somewhere; I will call the EA salesperson, to be sure...

lana, i'm just like you--i'm drawn to very light furniture. but with a little one, i'm worried that i will regret it.

o and by the way, i LOVE LOVE that chair!!! i'm also thinking about getting bergere style chairs, but with a square back. you definitely have to post pics when you are done! Chat Icon

Oh good you have a protection warranty! That would seal the deal for me, i'd go for it. Then maybe once the warranty is up, scotchguard it.

I have pale blue leather couches and I love them. They're leather, though, so any spills wipe right off.
