Like a knife to my heart
I've got a new coworker whose cubby is right outside my office. He and his wife are expecting a baby one week before I would have been due if my pregnancy had been viable. Every time he talks about it (which is often and unavoidable for me to hear), it's like a knife to my heart all over again.

I'm so sorry. I hope you can find a distraction to get you away from his conversation

Thanks, ladies. It helps to be able to vent these things to people who understand. He probably thinks I'm rude, but I don't ask him about the baby or anything, so I've been able to avoid engaging directly in conversation with him about it. But I can't avoid hearing about it when he's talking to other people about it. I try to ignore it, but when it gets to be too much I shut the door. But it still hurts . . .

I know it hurts and sucks and it's not fair. When we were going through treatments I started a new job. I was hired to take over for someone who was actually going on maternity leave in a few months and then I stayed on for good. Well, I had to stare at her big ole belly for months while I was going through treatments.
Unfortunately it's everywhere. You will always hear announcements, see bellies, etc. What you can change though is how you react to it. Or choose to completely ignore it and wallow up in your own hole which is what I had chosen to do.

For the most part, I've been able to deal with the bellies and announcements, but this situation is just really getting to me because of how close his baby is due to when my due date would have been. I know it's stupid and pointless, but when he's gushing about picking names, finding out the gender, etc., etc., I can't help but feeling sorry for myself that I *should* have been getting excited about those same things now, too.
I know there's no answer or solution, but I just needed to vent.

Makes perfect sense. It makes it more real bc of the timing.
