Like Victorian Era novels?
i just finished "the meaning of night" by michael cox, and it was absolutely amazing! yes, it is 700 pages, but it moves by quite swiftly. if you like books based in victorian england, with murder, romance and even some humor, i highly recommend this book. one of the best books i've read in a very long time.

Sounds really great. Have you read The Crimson Petal and The White by Michael Faber? I highly recommend if you haven't read this!
