Limited kitchen counter space, any ideas?
Hi,
We are in the process of buying a home that I love, well, except for the tiny kitchen. There is almost no counter space and there are very few cabinets.
For now, there is a wall, about 4-5 feet wide where we were thinking of putting "something" that would help with this issue.
I was thinking of something like a kitchen island type thing against the wall, that has a solid wood top. maybe a couple drawers or cabinets on the bottom. Nothing fancy, but definitely functional. I'd like to put my toaster over, kitchenaid, blender, etc there and use the top counter for bread, fruits, or anything else.
Problem is, we can't spend too much on it. Between a baby on the way and a mortgage, and one income, things are limited. Plus, we'd hope to redo the kitchen in a year or two.
Any ideas? I saw some kitchen islands on Overstock but they are about $500, more than we should spend.
TIA!

I have the same issue--my kitchen is super-tiny. I bought a kitchen cart from target.com. It wasn't expensive, but shipping was, so I waited for a free shipping promotion.
ETA- They still have it. I don't know if this style & size works for you, but it is 15% off & eligible for free shipping, so it would be under $200.

Re: Limited kitchen counter space, any ideas?
We had a huge open space in the middle of the kitchen. We decided to buid an island for additional cabinet and counter space. We went to lowe's and bought 2 (ithink 42in) cabinets and we placed granite ontop (matching out counters) It is a godsend, so much more space all around.

Re: Limited kitchen counter space, any ideas?
sounds like my kitchen when we moved in. i loved everything about our house except for the tiny kitchen with NO countertop space.
so we just put a high top table on the opposite side along with a microwave cart , and a pantry from HD. this way the table was for more work space acting like a countertop, pantry was to just store most of our food. it was VERY rough, but we had to make do. and finally we just remodeled our kitchen with more countertops, and cabinets 2 years later.
i hope it works out!

check this site out. We bought ours from here. Look on the left and you can search by price. GL! This is probably the best idea for your kitchen. We had a galley kitchen in our apartment and a rolling island was great to have on one side of the kitchen.

Ikea has some cheap kitchen carts/islands.
JC Penny also has a nice selection and they are always running sales, specials, free shipping, etc.
There is also home decorators.

Go to furniture clearance centers and get a buffet or cedenza type piece of furniture. Serves same purpose
