It's going to cost me a little over $5,000/year for commuting costs!

Do you have a site with the new rates? I'm curious what it will be for me and DH.

$8400/year for us.
This can't be happening.

I feel like this, I pay my mortgage, my taxes, all my bills on time, save money, contribute the max to retirement, help my in laws and my parents with money..and I feel like I am getting sh!t on.
There are no tax incentives to help me, the honest, on time paying, money pit for everyone and everything else.
Can't catch a break at all.

Re: LIRR ticket cost
I posted this not to long ago. Please everyone write our elected officials. NYS has until June 1st to bail out the MTA.
Complaining about it (which I was doing) doesn't get any of us anywhere. The MTA encourages you to write your elected officials as stated on their website. I wrote Governor Patterson and Charles Schumer. Please Please Please!!!

Looks like I will be driving to a different station to take advantage of the zone difference when I start working again.

I will..It's the only way to voice an opinion. I can't afford it. I will have to figure something else out.

Re: LIRR ticket cost
Thanks for posting this (although it sucks big time). I take Metro North and my ticket is going up $52 (or 27%) - and my train service is getting worse.

Re: LIRR ticket cost
oh dear...i take NJ transit and my pass is $352 per month
not including the $3.00 a day on local rail to get to NJ transit, and metrocards for the subway.
if NJ transit raises their fares, im going to lose my mind!

Re: LIRR ticket cost
2 questions...
1) I'm moving, so I'm going from Babylon station (zone 9) to Sayville station - what zone is Sayville?
And...
2) Is anyone willing to share a basic letter format to use when writing to the reps?
This hike just makes me so upset... How is it that we can't afford to get to work anymore? How does that even make any sense? I could cry!

Re: LIRR ticket cost
I just sent an email from their websites. It came from the heart how we can't afford this and may not be able to afford to stay in NY.
I also pointed out how our property values have gone way down but my taxes have increased 70% over the last 6 years. My salary has stayed the same now for 18 months. I can only imagine how people who are unemployed are feeling.
Lastly, I put this out there. The incentives that are available are not available to me, a homeowner, pay my mortgage on time, my taxes..etc..there is no help for people like me but we get to fund this all. As I mentioned before, the energy tax credit even went away in 08 and that was one of the only incentives I could take advantage of and it's only $500.
Let's see if it has any impact.

Sayville i believe is the same zone as Bay Shore (where I take the train from). It will be $352.00 for a monthly

Yep very sad, your paying$400 a month for transportation that isn't shiny and clean and in your driveway at the end of the day like perhaps a BMW or mercedes. It's insane it's MASS TRANSPORTATION and it costs that much! I hate it.

Re: LIRR ticket cost
If it's a net cost of $8400 a month I have to earn $14000 gross just to pay for it.
