"little miss perfect" new show on WE TV, would you? (parenting related)
so I have been seeing all of these coming attractions on WE for this new pageant show for young girls (between ages 5-11) where the moms enter them in.
if you have/had a DD would you do this?
IMO I dont think I would until she could really make her own decisions.

I don't have a daughter, but if I did I would definitely not enter her in pageants. IMO, there are better ways to build self esteem than this activity. I also think there is a whole unhealthy culture around pageants that I wouldn't want to expose a daughter to.
ETA - unless she wanted to do a "Little Miss Sunshine" type of entry

Not for a million dollars. There are very few things I'm adamant about, this is one of them... And the moms I've seen defending these pageants in the media all seem like they've got a screw loose, or are living vicariously through their little girls.

I can see myself putting DD into karate tournaments, sports events, chess tournaments, spelling bees, etc... but not a beauty pageant. It just seems so wrong. They are basically making a pre-teen into a sexually attractive adult.....

Not at those ages, but maybe when she was in high school if she REALLY wanted to.
When I was a teenager I really wanted to be in a beauty pageant and my mom wouldn't let me. I understand now why she said no, but at the time I thought she was lying and just didn't think I was pretty enough.

She would absolutely want to do it but I wouldn't let her do it.
I have no experience with beauty pageants - other than watching documentaries. I know those people insist that it was a confidence builder, etc.
I'd rather her focus on more character building activities - team sports, community stuff. She loves dance and that's about all we'll let her do.

Nope. I don't think I'd ever do this. Aside from the pressure it puts on the girls to compete and the emphasis on physical attractiveness - it is just a LOT of work! It's like a full time job for those moms.

Nope.
My brother's ex-GF's 2 neices were put in a pageant recently. Just to try it out. She said that the youngest girl really liked doing it, but kept asking 'when are they going to call my name' when they were giving out trophies and prizes. They said the face she had on was heartbreaking.
Eventually her name was called for a trophy (all the girls got at least a small trophy) and she was happy, but they said never again. The disappointment while that little girl was waiting for her name was unbearable.
So no, I couldn't do that to my daughter.
