Locks of Love.
My best friends mom has Stage 4 cancer. Because of chemo & radiation therapy she has lost most of her hair. The angel of a friend I have would love to donate her long hair to her mom. Do you know of any salons in Manhattan that does this type of thing?? We live in SI, so theres nothing out here.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: Locks of Love.
So sorry about your friend's mom. My sister "gave" her hair to my cousin (who had ovarian cancer). Another cousin just cut my sister's hair and brought it to a wigmaker (in Manhattan).
I'm not sure if Locks ofd Love will make the wig since it's a direct donation, but we never looked into it for my cousin. Maybe you can give them a call?

this statistic "It is estimated that 80% of all donations come from children who wish to help other children" bolsters my faith in humanity.
God Bless your friend and her mom.

Second, FYI it takes a few pony tails to make a wig according to the LOL website.

Re: Locks of Love.
Just before DD was born last year, DW donated 18"... We don't know anyone with cancer, but she just thought it was the right thing to do.

Re: Locks of Love.
My Mom donated last year!!
I cut it for her (used to be a hairdresser!) and we used the online form & mailed it.

Re: Locks of Love.
This is true.....they have to go strand by strand through the ponytail & remove damaged & grey hairs, so they loose some of what is there.

Re: Locks of Love.
I did this a couple of months ago. You can basically go anywhere to have it done. I told the stylist what I was doing, so she put my hair in a ponytail (with a holder) and then cut it. I took the ponytail and filled out the form they have on their website and mailed it in.
You get a nice postcard acknowledgment from them.
