Re: Locks of Love
I did it about 5 years ago. I just had my hairstyliest put my hair in a ponytail (made sure it was long enough) and she cut it. I took it home and mailed it to locks of love. Was soo easy and took the sting off of cutting it

Re: Locks of Love
I'm thinking of doing it now...I'm not sure if I just want to do it or wait for my mom's chemo so she doesn't feel alone.

I did it the same way. My sister and I did it together and my BIL video taped the whole thing.
You have to have a minimum pony tail of 10 inches and non dyed hair. I'm still waiting for my hair to grow back to it's original length and it's been almost a year since we donated.
Although I have no regrets and feel I really did something special for someone.

Re: Locks of Love
cool!
i can live with that.
i was reading their site, they even take hair that's not long enough... they sell it to off-set the cost of the pieces they do create.
i measured, i have a good 10 inches of hair to get rid of. i might do it for the holidays

Re: Locks of Love
I am doing this! I am just about at 10 inches and cannot wait to donate my hair. It seems like an easy process and the person who will be cutting my hair has done so for many donors.

Re: Locks of Love
I just donated 14 inches of my hair in July when I did my "mommy chop".

It will help her, at least I know it would have helped me. I have been very aware of my hair since I shaved it in th middle of treatment. I know my friend Laura who is also going thru Chemo feels the same way.

Re: Locks of Love
I was just asking my stylist about this-because they do it my shop.
You need to have at least 10 inches of hair to donate- and it needs to be in pretty good condition.
She said a lot of young girls do it- which is very admirable- because 10 inches is a lot of hair to lose- especially for a young girl!

Re: Locks of Love
I did it earlier this year.
I had my hairdresser put my hair in a ponytail and then cut it. There is a form on Locks of Love's website that you need to print out. Put the ponytail in a ziploc bag and send it with the completed form.
A few weeks after I sent it, I got a postcard back from them thanking me for my donation.
