Logan Joseph Creed's Birth Story!
On Friday, January 29th, DH and I went to my last appointment with my OB at 12:30 for an NST and routine exam. We were hoping to hear that I had SOME semblance of progress... as I had been 12 days overdue and been 1cm/50% effaced since Dec. 28th. Unfortunately, but not to my surprise, there was no progress and the induction was set. Dr. T suggested we go out for our last dinner as a couple and enjoy our evening as I would be admitted to the hospital at 10:30pm. We were excited to know that our little man was going to be making his debut SOON!
We came home, put the rest of the things we needed to do in order, and put the bags into the car. We went to Monterey's in LB for an amazing dinner and some time alone before the craziness began...
We stopped off at both of our parents' places to say hello, freak out a little, and headed off to the hospital.
After being admitted and receiving my IV, I was started on Cytotek at 11:30pm. By 2am, was effacing nicely and contracting 2-3 mins apart... but they weren't too painful, so I was able to breathe and sleep through them. I received two doses of Cytotek and by 8am I was given the OK to start Pitocin.
The Pit really didn't "kick in" (as in, I wasn't too affected by it) until Dr. T came in to check on me - around 11am. He decided to manually dilate me, as I wasn't dilating on my own as he would have liked, and then broke my water... that's when all H E L L broke loose (Let me just say that I had NO intentions of med interventions - but all that flew RIGHT out the window). Apparently my body just needed a little help for the Pit to really start working... In only 3-4 minutes after my water was broken, hard labor started... ooofah! Contractions lasted 1 - 1 1/2 mins with approx 20 - 30 secs of recovery. I held out from about 11am to 12:30 with those contractions spawned from the devil himself. SOOOO... guess what I asked for? Yup! That lovely little invention called an epidural! I got the epidural in by 12:50 and I was in la-la land by 1:15pm. 45 minutes later, Dr. T comes back in, put in an internal monitor for the little guy and tells me I'm fully effaced and dilated and that I can start pushing when I feel the urge to. About a 1/2 hr later (2:30-ish), knew what he meant by the "urge"... So, the nurses came in, set up the goods and away we went... Joe (DH) jokingly said, "Hey, ya think you could get this done by 3??" After approximately 15 minutes of pushing, out came our little man!
So, without further ado, Joe and I want to introduce our delicious little man,
Logan Joseph Creed D. 1/30/2010 2:54pm 8lbs 6oz - 21 3/4 in.
We couldn't be more in love with him. He's been eating like a champion and goes back to the ped on Tues for another check-up.
