Lola is 8 months and is in heat already???

How can this be? Does anyone know how long the bleeding will last? And is it safe now for her to be spayed?

I would ask your vet. I believe my vet told us if she went in to heat, we would have to wait a couple of months before she could be spayed.

The bleeding could last for a few weeks Chat Icon

You definitely need to wait at least a month/2 months after her cycle is over for all the hormones to leave her body before you have her spayed.

Definitely consult with your vet on this.

True. My dog went into heat at 8 mths also. You must wait now.

I went to Petco and bought the doggie diaper. You can put a panty liner in it...my small dog bled a whole month on and off !

ITA. Consult your vet regarding when it is safe to have her altered.

Did this interfere with her going to the bathroom?

Well yes, it is just like a pair of underwear. You must remove it for the dog to go to the bathroom.

Funny you ask that though. My girl dog had a very hard time being trained, she had some control issues.

The month we had the diaper on her, she wet the liner one time and then never again. From that month on she was trained. We think it was partly b/c she was miserable and mopey with the diaper on, and didn't want to run and play like usual (which would lead to the accidents). And since we didn't want to crate her at that age, just to keep trying to bladder train her, it controlled her activity in other ways. She was a typical moody girl when she got her AF!

Or it could have been just the hormones kicked in and helped with her control issues (there is speculation that some girl dogs need the hormones to gain full control).

So for us, the diaper helped in many ways.
