Long car ride with DS
We are leaving for NC on Sunday and decided to drive instead of fly b/c I was nervous about taking DS on a plane. He is 14 months now. It will be about a 12 hour car ride, maybe a little shorter. We are going to stop every few hours and let him walk around. I am going to bring a DVD player, figured some snakcs, some sippy cups with milk and juice, books for him. Anything else you recommend for the car ride?

Re: Long car ride with DS
I am SURE I am going to get flamed for this but it has saved me on long car trips and plane rides since she was about 14 months.
A Lollipop really works when they are super cranky. Just carry a tooth brush so you can brush after since they do have tons of sugar and aren't good for their teeth.
I have done this only a handful of times and in desperation but feel free to flame away

we JUST took this trip (from NC to Long Island and Back via car) last week
We left at 5am so dd was sleepy...she took a few short naps in the car. We stopped 2-3 times to let her run around and stretch her legs. She did GREAT...both ways, she began having a melt down about an hour before we got to the destination so DH jumped into the backseat with her while I drived to calm her down
We had LOTS of snacks and sang songs to her, that seemed to help
GOOD LUCK

Who would flame you for that?? Not me!! We all do what works and a lollipop is hardly harmful!!
I always have snacks (goldfish, cookies, cheerios etc.) and a portable DVD was the best present we ever received. Also music cd's for when we're desperate.
12 hours is a lot longer than we've ever done, but you should be fine! As long as you stop it will be good!!
