long island dog parks?
we are getting a dog this summer-a golden doodle- and we live in an apartment. we are going to be in the apartment for at least a year, so we are concerned about how we can make sure the dog gets enough exercise. Are there dog parks on long island? we live in the massapequa area. any info would be great!

Re: long island dog parks?
I don't live on LI anymore, but I just wanted to say congrats on your new addition! We have a labradoodle and live in an apt. Bella goes to the dog park every weekend.
When we do goto LI, I have taken Bella to Gardners Park in Bayshore/Brightwaters, there is a long trail that leads to the bay, and many people let their dogs off leash to swim, I have also taken Bella to Suthard's Pond in Babylon/North Babylon, where we have also let Bella off leash to go swimming. HTH!

Re: long island dog parks?
There are dog runs in Cedar Creek Park (Seaford), Wantagh Park (Wantagh), and I know some people take their dogs to the Preserve in Massapequa. We take Scout to Belmont Lake State Park because there he can run around and sniff through the woods and we get some excercise too. I prefer something like this to a dog run, where they get so filthy and some dogs are unruly.

Re: long island dog parks?
As Kara said, there are a few "dog runs" near you in Cedar Creek and Wantagh Parks. They are very small, though and mostly dirt so the dogs get kind of gross. I prefer Belmont, West Hills(which has a larger run) and/or Gardiners Park. These places you can take your dog off leash and walk with him/her to get exercise and if there are other dogs that are friendly, you can let them play together.
