Long Island Teachers
I currently work for NYC DOE as a Speech Therapist. I recently saw an opening for a position on LI in a town really close to me. Does anyone know where I can find out what the salary is like for the LI districts? I love working for NYC DOE, but the commute is longer than I really want and the pay is not as good as LI. I'm soooo confused!!
Anyone have any tips, info. or comments they can share with me??
Thanks!

Re: Long Island Teachers
I don't know of any places that publish salaries offhand, but starting salaries in Suffolk (w/o Masters) is about $40-42,000.00 and a few thousand higher in Nassau -

Re: Long Island Teachers
I teach on LI in an elementary school and I don't think there is a way to find out the pay scale unless you know someone in the district. I wish there was a website that listed the pay scales to be able to compare to other districts.

Re: Long Island Teachers
You can try doing a search on Newsday.com, I remember vaguely that sometime last year, they published the salaries of many school district employees on LI.

Re: Long Island Teachers
After I posted I did a search on pay scales and I found this webpage of NY teacher pay scales. You have to scroll down and there is a chart...there is instructions to how to read the table. I think its from 2 years ago...but it may help.

Re: Long Island Teachers
Thanx for the info. Anyone here ever work for NYC and leave for a job in LI? If so, did you regret leaving?

Re: Long Island Teachers
Not to be rude but I've only heard of people who were happy to leave the NYC system. I know speech therapists in my district get paid on the same scale as teachers. Prob start around high 40's w/o masters.
Also, I'm pretty sure you can get a copy of the teachers contract if you go to the district's administration building. Maybe only if you're a resident? Not sure.
