Long shot, but any educational leads (college, etc)?
I am an unemployed teacher. I worked for 1.5 years, taught summer school twice, come with excellent references but cannot find a job.
Since it's 9/4, it's probably fair to say I do not have a job for this year, so I'm expanding my search.
I just wanted to put it out there that if anyone has any leads in ANY type of educational setting - a college, a test prep company, etc. - I would really, really appreciate it. My unemployment runs out right before Christmas but I don't want to rely on it anymore. It's been 7 months on it and I really just want to work.
Thanks!

Kaplan always seems to be hiring. I work in a college, and we are in a hiring freeze and laying off permanent employees, so not a good time for college work either.

I would imagine it would be a paycut, but have you considered working in something human-services related? I know there are a bunch of agencies on LI and in NYC that run day programs for people with disabilities, and they often hire people with a background in education. If you go back on here, I listed a bunch of agencies to look into on another thread for an unemployed teacher who was looking.

Someone reccomended to me this website while I was looking: higheredjobs.org
I even got an interview from it!
I would also go to individual college's websites to see if they were advertising. I would suggest trying to get an Admissions position. I worked in Admissions for 3 years and loved it.

Thanks all! Great suggestions - I will look into all of them.

I should have mentioned - I already work for them! I have been teaching SAT and GRE for a many years part time. In fact, I am starting a class now. Unfortunately it's VERY part time - just a few hours a week. I need something more. Thank you though.

Jenn - did you consider some private institutions? For example, CA Technologies has a private montessori care with kindergarten or Friends Academy.
Also, I know there were postings recently online for a leave replacement at Longwood and Sag Harbor. And I saw Suffolk Community College was looking for professors for early childhood and reading. I saw something similiar for Empire State College (you work from home for this school).
Let me know if you need more info - I can likely dig it up.
Good luck!
