Long term effects of fertility meds?
I'm considering doing another fresh cycle but I'm worried about the long term effects of fertility meds. Has anyone done research on it and have any info?

Long term effects of fertility meds?
I worried about the long term effects. I already had cancer. If you are prone to estrogen based breast cancer you are higher risk. I was told, if you are going to get cancer it does not cause the cancer but the cancer would show itself sooner, meaning, if you were going to get it in 15 years it might show itself in 10. No link to the meds causing cancer just a link in it showing up sooner. clomid does cause problems, not sure specifics but the less of the drug the better. over all studies haven shown that IVF itself could effect the babies.. I don't think its the safest route to take but....

Re: Long term effects of fertility meds?
My old RE just told me I was pretty much at my medically safe limit. He offered just enough info without scaring the crap out of me. Told me I could possibly do one more ivf or 2 more IUI's and then that's it. But for me, I had max dose meds every time, so it may different for you.

Re: Long term effects of fertility meds?
I have heard that there is a link between fertility meds and cancer. Specifically breast and ovarian cancer. Other long term effects include thyroid issues and other endocrine issues.

Re: Long term effects of fertility meds?
Everything you do comes with risks. I've always said the side effect to not doing fertility treatments was not having children. That's just something I was not ok with- so I rolled the dice over many years.
I think about the long term effects sometimes but it doesn't prevent me from wanting to build the same size family I've always wanted.

I was on max doses and I've started to worry now what other long term effects could we be privy too. I've become so forgetful of simple words and it's not pregnancy brain :(

THIS...and
A woman who has never given birth is also at an increased risk for developing breast, ovarian, and uterine cancers.
I agree with PP, ignorance is bliss and I choose not to think about those risks after I heard about them. I refuse to read those articles and I do not read any research regarding it. It is what it is.

Long term effects of fertility meds?
Before anyone is scared I would check scientific recent study facts. A lot of this being reported and studied with like 72 women which is not in fact a great "study". We obviously know that medication such as the ones for iui's or ivfs can't be "good" for you... But how bad. Who knows and there is enough stress going through this process that imo it's not worth thinking about unless I think it's something that will stop me from doing my cycle. I also think it depends on how many times you are doing such cycles. I start my shots wednesday so I think it's best I stay away from fhis topic lol

Re: Long term effects of fertility meds?
I don't think there are any great studies or evidence of risks just yet. Cancers occur years out... IVF babies are all younger than I am now. It's all complicated by the fact that people who use IVF may be predisposed to disorders (older, ? Hidden genetic issues).
I'm sure there are risks, but I'm a bigger fan of the rewards! Annnnnnddddd... I didn't do IVF by choice!

Re: Long term effects of fertility meds?
I spoke to my ob/gyn who did not administer my IVF and he said that a woman who never had kids in her lifetime has a better chance at getting ovarian cancer than a woman who actually bears a child.

Yes, having babies and breastfeeding are good for your body I have heard when it comes to certain cancers.
