Longwood and Patchogue-Medford SD's
Can anyone tell me some things about these districts. What's good about them as well as any concerns you may have encountered that someone moving in may need to know about. My daughter is 6 and will be going to the 2nd grade. She needs to be in an inclusion program. Any help you can offer is appreciated. Feel free to FM me if you feel more comfortable that way. THANK YOU in advance.

Re: Longwood and Patchogue-Medford SD's
I am not sure what the elementary school would be. There is a school up the street from the school

Re: Longwood and Patchogue-Medford SD's
We are in Pat-Med SD and live right up the road from Medford elementary. PM is a good SD, the best and not the worst. We dont have any kids in the district yet, but from what I have heard from people that have had kids in it, they are happy.

This sounds good, I have a co worker that lives in E Patchogue, and he was saying the same thing. My only concern is that there are woods behind the house. I am a city girl so it would be an adjustment to move out there.

Re: Longwood and Patchogue-Medford SD's
DH and his sister went to longwood schools... elementary was fine, but then when they got to the MS/HS it was awful. The school is WAY overcroweded, DH eventually went to private school because it was so terrible... his sister stayed... but hated it. she saw a kid get stabbed in the hand with a pencil in homeroom... among other things.

Re: Longwood and Patchogue-Medford SD's
i was just speaking to my friend who teaches in one of the "better" schoold districts and is usually very critical with schoold districts. She said pat med is good like i said good elementary and longwood she said depends on where you are, and the elementary you are in.

Pat. Med is good, but there budget did not pass last year. I work at Longwood, and it gets a BAD rap. It is NOt the best but it is FAR FROM the worst.

Re: Longwood and Patchogue-Medford SD's
It has been my personal experience as a mother of a child with special needs that districts that receive more government money like longwood & possibly P-M have better special ed programs & services. It is also my understanding that two of Longwoods elems rate very well, even better than some of the "good districts". As for the middle school & high school, I think everyone has "heard" bad things. Not sure how much of it is true. My kids didn't go to longwood or P-M. When my son was in 4th grade we moved out of a "GREAT" district into an average one so my son could get the services he needed. If I'm understanding your post right & you have a child w/special needs I think you need to GO to each district & meet with special ed people, maybe attend a SEPTA meeting. The opinions of the ladies on here that teach or work in schools I'm sure is very useful, but unless someone here put their special ed child through either of there districts their opinion would not be as signifigant. Good luck!

Re: Longwood and Patchogue-Medford SD's
I went to Longwood (many, many, many, many years ago!) It definately was overcroweded and we were on a split schedule 9th - 11th grade. (I was the first graduating class from the "new" high school). I wouldn't say it was a horrible SD, but then again, that was many years ago and not now.

I was a graduate of Pat-Med and I have nothing but good things to say about it-My coworker has a daughter in Longwood and she wants her out ASAP I don't think there is any problem with elementary but I know that a friend of mine who works in the highschool has seem some pretty nasty fights in Longwood HS

I grew up in P- M and graduated from there. the school district is fine. I have a few friends who teach there now and say the elementary schools are all good.
